I got to Indonesia pretty quickly but then said out loud, “It’s probably Suriname”. So I would have got it wrong even though I got it right. Oh well, in my house the glorious smugitude is in getting to the right answer even if we change it or get the wrong answer first. We’ll even share if we both get it right. ---

I was disappointed with the guy who answered the question about Carly Simon, because he didn’t say, "What is antici… pation?" On the other hand, I probably would have tried to do that and Mayim would have called it wrong before I finished. ---

My first reaction to the Dutch colony clue was “Dutch Guiana,” so I was dismayed that the correct response was Suriname. Then I looked it up and found that they’re the same place: old name/new name. I wonder if they would have accepted my response as correct. ---

My response was similar - I immediately said “Oh it’s probably whatever the hell they call Dutch Guiana these days”. Then I briefly considered Indonesia, and tried to remember what, if any, Dutch colonies in the West Indies might be independent now _and_ belong to the U.N. Only then did Dutch Guiana morph into Suriname in my mind. I went a completely different direction. My first guess was South Africa. Suriname never even crossed my mind. ---

No, good point. The colony of Dutch Guiana was actually a larger territory that included Suriname and other regions. So I would have been counted wrong. ---

The South African variant of Dutch is Afrikaans, which differs enough to be considered a separate language. IIRC, it’s descended from the dialect spoken by Boer colonists. ---

My mind did not even go to South America on that one. All I could think of was Curaçao, and I was proud of myself that I even got it _half_ right. That was a tough one. Friday’s FJ, on the other hand, seemed super obvious, and I was very surprised only one player got it. ---

Indonesia was my guess too even though I have spent time there and know damned well no one speaks Dutch these days. I just thought maybe it was some sort of holdover on the books. ---

When I was about 5-6, my aunt took me to the circus. Among the many things she bought me was a lovely Kewpie Doll dressed as a ballerina. I loved that doll and had it on my dresser for years. Nobody told me a boy shouldn’t have a doll. I would have been indifferent to a G.I. Joe. Or I would have dressed it as a ballerina. ---
