My brother called and just said the Lake Delton dam broke. I haven’t found a news source yet.
Where is this dam located? State/country?
I was able to find this: link
The Lake Delton dam breached. The Mirror Lake dam is just overflowing, and can fail at any time… The Briggsville dam may go. I’m packing clothes and loading the vehicle for a quick escape. Portage’s red alert dialed to warn the town. For the current time they want the people loaded to leave immediately. I’m ready to puke my nerves and adrenaline are so bad. I might not be on line to this thread for a time, so don’t expect responses to postings.
They had viedo of homes washing into the flood. You may find it online soon. Lake Delton is where the Tommy Bartlet Ski Show is.
Ye gods. And there’s more storms on the way. Stay safe, Harmonious!
Ack. Stay safe, man!
You were indeed prophetic here. Sorry about your really lousy situation and good luck with things returning to normal asap.
The video can be launched from this page.
Aw man, all this water’s going to end up in the Mississippi. Look out below!
The Wyocena dam may fail and that’s up river from us. I didn’t mean the Briggsvile dam. i wanted to correct that. The Saint Mary’s school will be a shelter if it’s needed. The minimal security prisoners are being used to help sandbag in the state right now.
Yes mods this is a second thread about the flooding, but I wanted anybody that was affected and on the boards to see the dam failed.
Does it mean I’m going to hell that I initially giggled and pictured them using minimum security prisoners as sandbags when I first read your last post?
Egads! Stay safe, HD. We got a fair amount of rain (4.11 inches) here in Madtown, but luckily I’m on the upper part of a pretty big hill.
Some of the roads are washed out in town, but it looks like most of the real flooding is up in Columbia and Sauk counties, plus the Sugar River area in southern Dane.
I was a little nervous Saturday though - we were down at the Brooklyn Bluegrass Festival in Brooklyn (aka Tornado Alley) and had some pretty massive weather go down in the afternoon. I think we were a couple of miles from the tornado, but it felt really close.
Anyway, stay safe and be well.
Yike! I’m not seeing anything about this on international news sites or sites local to me. I remember very much enjoying Wisconsin when I visited it in '95. Good luck, everyone!
Is there some reason you’re not just getting out now?
Where is that thread with the dam breaking sim?
Yikes! Good luck.
Scarlett in central WI, well north of Portage and on top of a hill
Good luck, guys. My grandmother was dying in a nursing home when the Albany, GA floods hit in the 90’s - ISTR it was a dam burst as well. There is nothing more inconvenient than planning a funeral in a 500 year flood.
Good luck and stay safe!
Out of respect for Harmonius and others, let’s please not link that just at the moment.
Harmonius (and anyone else in these downstream valleys) dam breaches can be extremely dangerous and destructive (you probably already know, but it bears repeating). Please get out of the path of the flood if you can.
Keep us posted.
I’m kind of wondering this myself. I think I’d be safe and get out. It’s not like I could hope to save my house if it was going to go, and I’d rather protect myself and my family :X
Please be safe.
I’m back at the house. The Wyocena dam has been reinforced some. The released water from lake Delton dam failure is not going to cause the Portage levee on the Wisconsin river to fail. There are a number of dams that are of concern right now. I hope the next few days of rain doesn’t amount to squat. I have my stuff packed and loaded for evacuation if needed in the next three days.
