The [U.S. and EU](http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/europe/03/20/belarus.poll.results/index.html) have both more or less declared the recent presidential election in Belarus a fraud and called for new elections free from government intimidation. My only questions are - do we care and if so, what should be done about it?

Both the U.S. and EU fund NGOs and some of the opposition parties in Belarus already. Economic sanctions do not seem like they would be very effective since Russia continues to support, albeit lukewarmly, current President Lukashenko’s regime and would not likely join in any sanctions framework.
