I agree…but I wonder:
Is it as obvious to a kid? Maybe we just know the trope and recognize it.

There were tons of good little jokes. Nothing gut-bustingly funny on its own, but good, and in large numbers
That sums it up perfectly for me too. I saw it and thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think I thought that I would enjoy it more.
I liked the “twist” at the end (if you call it that) I didn’t see it coming, but it A LOT of context in the movie in retrospect, which actually made me enjoy it more.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. I expected I would, but I ended up laughing way more than I thought I would. It is a very funny movie! And a great twist, indeed. Definitely recommended!

Saw it yesterday with the Sweetie, and we both really enjoyed it, despite being only vaguely aware of Modern Lego Culture.

Did anyone else notice that even before the twist was actually revealed, we were starting to shift towards that world? For instance:
Early in the movie, when someone is flying (Superman, say), they just fly. But when Morgan Freeman’s Ghost was flying, he was suspended from a thread.

Saw it Saturday with my wife and youngest (11yo.) It was much better then I thought it would be.
Somebody upthread asked about sets based on the movie. There are many out. I’m trying to justify the $35.00 price for the one with the pirate (Metalbeard?) in it.

If I understand what you’re asking, the fact that it’s a Legoverse isn’t just a gimmick, it’s vital to the plot in much of the movie and the gags.

I felt like the dad got shafted a little when it came to the “message” of the movie. Granted, he shouldn’t have made his kid play with just the throwaways, and it was important to do legos together _with_ his kid as well as on his own, but the film seemed to be treating it as wrong for the dad to even have any space at all reserved for his own, permanent, not-to-be-touched constructions. That seems to be going too far. It’s totally okay, IMV, to expect some stuff to be reserved, not to be touched. I mean, I don’t really operate that way, but my kid does, and I don’t think it’s inherently childish, I think some people just need a space that belongs just to them. This is fine as long as they’re not an asshole about it.
But anyway, overall, a great fun film, surprisingly clever.

I don’t know what to spoil and what not to spoil, so I’m going to just give a quick list of fun bits that I loved. Skip them if you’re sensitive (or stay out of the thread maybe?):
- The final joke of the movie (the “invasion”)
- Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams
- The Lego piece #'s when they would visualize a build
- The twist got me in the feels
- Batman’s love song
- Everything (it’s also awesome, I hear).

I agree, and considering my dislike of that particular actor, for something to happen to his character that makes me sympathetic to him is quite surprising.
I know it would have made it a very different film but I would like to see a recut of the movie without the live action part. Have it take place entirely within the Legoverse where our heroes really save the day

It took me a couple of weeks, but I finally got around to seeing it and I enjoyed it a lot. It definitely went beyond feeling like a pointless toy advertisement. It may seem a bit weird, given all of the brightly colored fun stuff there was to look at, but the scene that really impressed me was one of the ocean scenes, with the water undulating in subtle shades of blue. And, I gotta say, I couldn’t help but think of V’Ger from the first _Star Trek_ movie when they showed us what the Kragle was.

It took me a couple of months but I finally got around to it too. I can’t believe it’s still in select theaters. I was the only one in the room on a Wednesday evening.
Before the reveal, I actually thought the Kragle was going to be this:
