The Limey and The Hit are two movies I like very much, and I normally don’t like very many. These were very good films.
I fuckin’ loved this movie.
Lots of memorable scenes, and Stamp can do rhyming slang like no one else, me old china.
I loved Fonda’s musings on The Sixties: “The 60s… Some place far away, half remembered when you wake up. When you were there, though, you knew the language. You knew your way around. That was the sixties… No. It wasn’t that either. It was just -66 and early -67. That’s all there was.”
Incidentally, just before he was in Poor Cow, Stamp starred in a film version of John Fowles’ novel The Collector. His co-star was Samantha Egger. I haven’t been able to find a copy of this anywhere in Australia. Has anyone seen it?
“Tell him I’m coming??”
“No - tell him I’m coming.”
I’m a huge Limey fan. I’ve seen it seven or eight times, and it holds up quite well to repeated viewings. Scoundrel Swanswater, I would recommend you try it again. Audio two seconds out of sync would ruin just about any movie, more so with the Limey, which has several scenes where spoken dialogue doesn’t go with the film clip being shown (e.g., when Wilson meets Jenny’s roommate at her apartment.)
There are many memorable scenes, but I think my favorite is the warehouse. “Stupid English fuck!”
