We had the same kithen tile in our house, except it was more avocado. Hopefully the mirrored tiles were installed with the adhesive backing ONLY. We had some in our bathroom where they had used wood glue.
My 4 year old’s untouched reaction: “Wow! That is one ugly house!!! Pee-shew!”
Husband’s reaction to the red room: “So that’s where all the blood from “The Shining” went to.” (My reaction was “Hey, it’s the Dancing Midget Room from “Twin Peaks!””)
The kitchen should have come with a warning label: “Prolonged Staring May Cause Excessive Head Trauma.”
The yard, though. Oh, the yard. You could have one serious paintball orgy in those woods! The basement is pretty cool, too.
Once you get done with it the place is gonna look great. Make us proud!
ROFLOL Oh the pain!!! It hurts it hurts!!!
So, ya gonna turn the basement into a rumpus room?
I love the back yard, and this house will rock once you are through with it. What fun!
I really liked the home- not a house- that FCM was getting and then everyone said it was crap. Well most. The interior can be changed and she has a lovely setting- I mean with the yard.
FCM- it will be great, and you’ll have a lot of fun getting it the way you want. Did I ever tell you about my three ducks flying up the wall and the difficulty I had getting them?
I think you should hang the blue cherubs up in the attic, so in 40 years, whoever buys it will post on some future message board about the hideous blue cherubs they found in the attic of their new house. (I’m remembering a thread about odd stuff found in attics)
Why did they leave behind so much stuff? And food in the cabinets? Eww.
Is the gazebo permanent or is it one of those pop-up tent things?
Those mirrored tiles are going to be BITCH to get off. Be careful with that.
We had them (gold-veined!) in one room in our house, and they’d been put up with some kind of liquid contact cement and we ended up having to pry them off with a big screwdriver. They all shattered. Huge mess. Not fun. Not only did we have glass everywhere, but the wall was ruined, too.
The wood stove is cool. We just bought one for our house, and have been collecting wood. I can’t wait for wintertime.
A terrific house with wonderful potential and a gorgeous yard. The ugly cosmetic stuff is easy enough to change – and you’ll have lots of fun before and after photos!
I like the chandelier! You should definately eBay it – my dad bought theirs on eBay for $150 and it wasn’t as big and ornate as yours. But what’s up with the mirrors? I actually like mirrored closet doors well enough, but in the hall? And those monstrous veined tiles are horrible. Good luck getting them down. The kitchen is certainly ugly, but I think the worse thing in the whole house is the bathroom sinks. I don’t like those cultured marble jobs anyway and yours are particularly hideous examples. And is that a Santa Claus bear-shaped lotion bottle in the master bath?
Definately post the afters when you’re done. This is gonna be a great house someday!
I so wish I could be at Ugly Fest!
The green is just so mosslike
We really should have taken pictures of our house before the remodelling started. I had a harvest gold bathroom complete with mold in the linoleum. I also had a pineappled living room.
I can’t wait to see fest pics and after pics. That will be a great house.
Looks like standard issue Anne Arundel County (or nearby) to me. From the outside anyway. From the inside looks like colors from my childhood. I’d say there’s lots of potential for improvement. And I’ve seen worse.
What really floors me is that at some point, people actually paid real money to MAKE their house look that way.
I mean, didn’t they step back and LOOK at it?
Congrats on the new digs and good luck on the remodeling!
FairyChatMom you’re going to have to email me the photos! I’ve tried several times and they never come up.
Um…saw the pics.
Mother always taught me if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.
I’d like to say that it still looks a lot better than my house.
I really would like to say that, just to be nice, but I can’t.
Although I do have a butt-ugly harvest-gold-and-wood-panel '70s kitchen that I haven’t bothered to do anything about.
I recant…actually there is one really good thing…land! You have a nice chunk of land for that house! Here in Las Vegas, even multi-million dollar homes have only about 16 inches of space between one mansion and the next.
You should really consider sending these photos to that ABC home makeover show, or Trading Spaces - however, your luck you would get Hilde to do the makeover and she is the only person on earth who could make that interior look worse.
Near as I can tell, they’re held on with little adhesive pads. I hope so - I’m trying to keep drywall work to a minimum.
Lyllyan, the basement is going to be mostly a woodworking shop. Although I came home today to my own personal laundry room!! Well, it needs a door, but the walls are up.
BiblioCat, they had a house built in Florida, and I suspect it was a lot smaller, so they didn’t have space for all the stuff. I know they’d had a couple of yard sales and we told them anything they didn’t want they could just leave. So they did. The lunchmeat was good - I’ve got to find Nick’s Deli - but some of the other items were decidedly nasty.
Jess, yeah, that’s some kind of Christmassy soap dispenser in the master bath. They also left a bunch of Christmas hand towels - it’s very festive for August.
Yeah, the land really is nice. It slopes gently away from the house, it’s all fenced, and we intend to let most of it go back to its natural state. The previous owners mowed everything, but I’m not nearly that ambitious.
Harvest gold?? I always thought that was worse than avocado…
Home Depot is going to love you.
Good luck and BTW… is that shag carpeting?
It is. Believe me, if you spent a lifetime looking for something uglier you’d die a frustrated failure.
Carcosa, no, not shag. It’s a high-low sculptured carpet in shades of orange and yellow. Although I suppose it could be matted shag… Let’s see what a vacuuming does to it!
I’m guessing it’s a poorly-woven berber.
