I just saw this long awaited movie trailer. Is anyone else excited for this adaptation of the Stephen King (Richard Bachman) story?
My son called me up and gushed. We have promised to see it together. I never could get him to read when he was young until I introduced Stephen King to him. I think he read The Stand first! What a way to start!

It will succeed or fail based on creating characters the audience is invested in, not whether it shares thematic elements with _The Hunger Games_.
I’m just glad they fixed the 4 mph problem.

I’ve flipped and flopped on exactly how intriguing they could make the story play out on film. I’ve often thought that [“Rage”](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rage_(King_novel)?wprov=sfti1) would work better, though I understand why he’s removed it from circulation.
But the trailer makes to look at least halfway decent. I’ll probably go see it in the theater.

Agreed.
When my wife mentioned that they were adapting this story to a film, I questioned how well that would work. It’s just people walking and getting shot. Imagine if _Squid Games_ was a film and took place entirely within just one of the games. It’s a challenge to stretch it out to a feature film length.
I imagine they’d have to add a lot of material that wasn’t in the story and I worry when that happens.
“Rage” could be an awesome movie but there’s no way a person could get away with a film using that premise in 2025.

To be honest, though current events and attitudes have caused me to rethink it, I’ve considered trying to adapt _Rage_ into a stage play. I see a way that it could work, but I’ve never gone beyond the exploration stage.

Probably a lot of flashbacks that were not in the story.

In the novel, the minimum speed the kids needed to maintain was 4 mph, which is _really_ fast for a walk. Some people can’t even walk that fast without making it a jog/trot, and those who can look kind of comical doing it. You certainly can’t maintain it for days.
There’s a bit in the trailer that confirms the minimum speed in the movie is 3 mph, which is more realistic. People have commented on this (very minor) flaw in the book forever.

I agree that 4 mph was a problem, and I’m glad they fixed it. I’m wondering how they will get Ray’s internal thoughts on film. Flashbacks will help somewhat.

I’m looking forward to it. I’ve only read a few of Stephen Kings books, but the long walk was one of them. I’ve been wanting them to make a movie about this for a long time. I’m just sad it won’t be out until September.

I read that book while I was in high school 🏫 , before it was known Bachman was Steven King. 😱 After high school I joined the 🇺🇸 Army 🪖. The unit I was with in Korea 🇰🇷 loved to send us on long route marches for “training.” 20 miles or more, usually. Over mountains. ⛰ Don’t ever stop unless it’s for a really good reason. 🩸 Foot marches were _not_ part of my job as a RATT rig operator ⌨ that was installed in a _truck_. 🛻 As my feet 🦶 started to burn 🔥, thoughts of that story 📖 came to mind, every, single, time. 🧠 Did I ever mention I didn’t like the Army? Got out and took the college money after just one hitch. 👩🎓

How often is their pace checked (is there someone always monitoring)? Apparently they can’t stop but could someone run for a while and then slow down as long as their average is OK?
Are they allowed to eat/drink (as long as they keep moving)?
Just curious about the logistics (I did read the Wikipedia summary)
