It was, indeed, a bad analogy. And one thing that made it “bad” was that the poster was likened to a stranger entering someone else’s house. It wasn’t as if this was the first post the OP ever made on this MB, and although he’s only been registered here a few months, there isn’t any rule, formal or informal, about how long you have to be here before you get to consider this site your “house”. The other part that made it a bad analogy was comparing the act of offering a suggestion about change to forcing a change on someone. No furniture was moved. No walls were painted. ---

To use an analogy (because…hey, it’s fun), it would be as though someone had been coming into Sam’s bar on CHEERS for a few weeks and commented to Sam that he’d prefer barstools with backs and Norm getting snotty saying how he doesn’t want “his” bar changed. And then making a lame analogy about houses that he doesn’t own. ---

Oak, you’re way out in left field on this thread. 1. Your first post was snotty. “How would you like it if I came over to your home” and “I’m just some random guy wandering by on the street” present the analogy that **Lazlo Hapsburg** does not belong here. That _is_ hostile. Granted, not in a “I’m gonna beat your face in” kinda way, but it was hostile in a “You don’t belong here, your opinion is unwanted, and your presense is trying” kinda way. 2. Your anaolgy was faulty. Nobody changed anything, nobody rearranged the furniture or painted the walls. A more accurate analogy would be if you were in college and sharing an apartment with an assortment of roommates. You’re a senior, and the freshman who moved in last semester comes in and says, “Hey, the neighbors redecorated, and I think we should do some of the things they did. Here are pictures.” 3. Dex did not reply as a moderator, he did not put moderating tags, he did not give you a warning or even a mod note, so your continued reference to not breaking any rules is irrelevant. What he did was post a note as a member disagreeing with your analogy and with your tone. Your continued harping on him for being a moderator and your insistence that you were not breaking any rules looks like you are dragging baggage into the exchange. Any member can tell another “That’s not very nice!” In fact, several other posters (myself included) feel the same way about your original response. Of course, there’s no rule requiring you to be nice, but there’s also no rule preventing you from being nice. 4. It’s odd that you read your comment as not hostile but Dex’s as hostile. That’s a screwy perspective. Dex’s remark was more along the lines of “who pissed in your cheerios?” than “shut up and go away”. On the hostility meter, I’d give your comment a 5 and Dex’s a 3 (out of 10 max). ---
