Howdy all - sorry I have been AWOL but I have been busy dealing with work and baby and and and …
To summarise from my brief skim through the MMP so far:
Moooommmmmm, great OP. I think the last letter I wrote was in 1991 when I was an exchange student in Germany, before email was invented (or widely available, at least). I have never been a very good correspondent though. I always intend to send Xmas cards each year, buy them and sometimes even get around to writing in them, but never remeber to address them or send them!
Nooner, good vibes headed your way for your Dad’s new hip!
taxi, congrats on the house!
swampus, woohoo on the change in employment arrangements!
And in local news, MIL is in hospital having knee-replacement surgery done! Yes, MIL is joining the bionic-knee club! All very sudden, as apparently she has been on the public “elective-surgery” waiting list since last year some time (no health insurance), when she got a call two days agao to tell her they had an opening for her surgery today! I think they are only doing her left knee though, then she will go back on the waiting list for the right knee! I am going to try and visit her this afternoon. Fun! :sarcastic smiley: I just hope her orthopod raps her knuckles about her weight and tells her she needs to move, rather than sitting on her butt ordering everyone else around!
Dotty I’ll keep your MIL in my thoughts and prayers. Here’s hoping she listens to the docs and does what she should to recover.
Up and caffienatin’ here too. My plane does not leave for another four hours and gettin’ to the local [del]crop dusting hangar[/del] airport an hour early gives the folks who rummage through suitcases plenty of time, so it ain’t like I have to be up now. However, I get antsy whenever I have to fly, so I’m up.
Here’s my flights for the next few days…
Today: Albeeny to Etlanner to Cincinnati to Cape Girardeau, MO. Cape? I keep wondering why Cape? I mean Missouri is a landlocked state. Oh and I’m staying in Cape (that’s what the locals call it) instead of Cairo, so that means I get to rent a car and drive about 90 miles round trip each day. Woo and Hoo.
Friday: Cape Girardeau to Cincinnati and spend the night at the Cincy airport Hilton. Did y’all know that the Cincinnati airport is actually in Kentucky?
Saturday: Cincinnati to Salt Lake City to San Jose. Apparently one cannot go west on a Delta flight without going to SLC. At least not from Cincinnati.
Thursday Next Week: San Jose to SLC to Etlanner to Albeeny, arriving around 11:00 P.M.
Envy me this exotic travel.
Snakes carpal tunnel and arthritis… yikes! However, the two seem to go hand in hand (HAH!). I foresee one or the other or both in my future just cause of all the repetitive hand motions I’ve done since forever.
Thanks y’all for the encouragement about my job situation. This will be good. I think. I may get all ACK!!! about it in a few days but for now it feels good.
Blech. I’m at work not and I feel like I’m going to puke. So instead of doing anything productive, I’m just sitting here in my comfy chair reading the Dope.
Mayhaps I should go check out what bb is up to? Don’t leave or get kicked out. We like you.
I really came in here to say I hate all my clothes. I discovered this fact whilst packing last night. Yep. I have a suitcase full of clothes that I hate. So, what does ol’ y’all know who have to say about it? He asked me if that meant he could go through all my shirts and pick out the ones he likes since I now hate 'em all.
I was up at 5:00 and caffeinating and reading the MMP, when I was overcome by sleeping sickness and went back to bed. But I’m up for good now!
Good luck with the employment stuff, Swampy. It will all work out for the best, I just know it. You, too, FCM!
My brother and I stayed up until midnight or so - he’s still asleep. Poor guy has to sleep on the couch, since I don’t have a spare bed. I’m gonna go rattle those pots and pans and make him a good old-fashioned Southern breakfast in a minute. Bacon and eggs and grits and toast and hashbrowns…mmm. I was planning on cooking him a homemade dinner, but he’s insisting on taking us out to a fancy dinner as his Christmas present to us. So homestyle breakfast will have to do!
It’s good to have him here! Oh, and Dad was floored when he saw him! The dogs were barking and carrying on, and he goes, “What’s going on?!” Then he saw Jack. I should have had a camera! :smack:
The inn lunch was lovely. I had the pulled pork. I think it’s listed as Berkshire pork shoulder on baguette etc. and it was really good. SiL had a hamburger, and step-MiL had the pizza with chorizo. Very nice.
Safe travelling, swampy! Keep us updated!
Thanks for the sympathy, gt. My SiL generally makes me want to chew iron bars. This time I was much less aggravated at her personality, and much more pissed off by her parenting. So far I’ve got four people who have volunteered to smack me hard if I ever let tinyninjachef eat that much candy, and gum before five or six. I don’t think it’s going to happen, anyway.
Okay, today is laundry/massive housework day. Everything’s dirty and covered in cat hair. Vacuuming, scrubbing, tidying. And we need veggies and things.
Well, I’m not likely to step into another sex thread anytime soon, but IME, the older guys (very broad brush) tend to have um, habits. Sounds like he is doing what he always did (and maybe it worked fine for him in the past), but you need something else. Word to the wise: bring this up at a time when you are both clothed, and not in a real hurry to get anywhere like work. Think out what you want to say–narrow it down to maybe 2-3 things. Once those have changed, bring up a few more (if any). And don’t say anything like “I can’t believe you don’t know this!” or “like a woman just wants to be dropped like a sack of potatoes for a ciggie and a snooze!”* Bring it as a positive thing–I’d like it if you X or Y gets me revved up for next time (ever notice how the terms used to refer to sex are silly? But I digress).
Stuff like that won’t have the result you’re looking for…
Have things to do. Will most likely not be here much this week. I need to work on some stuff and I’m working for someone on Friday (thank God–money is needed).
*not saying you were going to do this, just saying.
It makes me wonder why parents feel the need to make their children feel that they are super special these days.
Why isn’t it enough for a child to feel that they are equally as loved as their siblings?
Those singing shows on tv (Americal Idol and the like) are a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine, but I much prefer the show post-auditions. Why? Because I feel uncomfortable seeing the parents of untalented children telling them how fantastic they are and how great their singing is. Surely part of raising a child to be a healthy adult is to teach them that not everyone is great at everything, and that’s an ok way to be.
Anyways, I’ve been stuck at home with a cold and no internet for most of today. I forgot how boring that was. I stooped as low as watching Dr Phil. My sinuses have doubled the weight of my skull. On a plus side, I’ve made a most delicious beef caserole for dinner tonight.
My neighbours have their heating up so high that it keeps our house cosy (terraced house). I actually turned our heating off today and it’s still comfortable in here. I’ll probably need to turn it on tonight, but I’m pleased with the gas I’m saving.
Dr Phil? Oh, you poor dear. For the love of God, go read your Inland tax bill–anything other than Dr Phil…
Cool beans on the piggybacking of heat. Nice way to save some moola. Hope the sinuses get better soon.
I have vertigo. I’m fine and then the room slides out of kilter for a few draggy seconds. Very odd. I had it yesterday, but thought it was because I was so tired (up most of the night before so no sleep). I don’t mind it–but it sure is weird.
And good luck with the possible blowing-stuff-up job FCM!
Hope you feel better soon, rosie.
Sounds like a nice visit with your brother, rebo.
It suddenly got COLD here. It was between 5 and 7 (depending on which radio station you choose to believe. In Amurrikun degrees.) with a -10 degree wind chill! I didn’t know that when I headed out to the gym so I had on cropped pants and just a fleece jacket! It was really really cold! The high for today is forecast to be between 18 and 25, again depending on who you listen to. Yippee.
A month or so ago, I sent in one of those business reply post card things to the orchestra to get cheap tickets. They use those to get people signed up for their mailing list and stuff. I hadn’t gotten anything back and had even talked to them a couple times, at which point they said “Well, it’s in the mail. You should have gotten it already. Dunno what happened.” Great. So it finally came yesterday… and all but 1 of the concerts for which I could get cheap tickets have already gone by.
Hi, everybody. I got dragged out of bed this morning by a phone call from the office – I was a bad girl, forgot to send in a job I’d finished over a week ago! So it’s now sent. Oh well, I guess we all have these little memory slips occasionally, right? Nothing at all to do with getting older. Huh-uh. Not nohow, not noway.
Anyway, hugs, boos, yays, as appropriate all around. I’m feeling like I got run over by a freight train this morning, so will just sit here and work in a semi-vegetative state and hope to feel more human before the day is out. And stay home – the Annapolis Conference is going on today, and even though I don’t have any errands that would take me anywhere near the Naval Academy grounds, I fear that motorcades might tie things up pretty badly. Here’s hoping they’re doing the rolling motorcades they’re so good at doing in D.C. when VIPs move around – only blocking off about 2 blocks in front of and behind the motorcade, and moving the blocked-off area with the motorcade to create minimal congestion – if they don’t, I fear it could be a screaming zoo out on Route 50 by coming-home time for Papa Tigs. And that’s all he doesn’t need, is to get caught up in an even worse traffic jam than usual.
In fact, I think that the  smiley probably describes my mood best this morning. So I shall go be grumpy elsewhere.
