Martian swag, anyone…?
The Martian has been nominated for a Golden Globe. In the Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy category.
Are they using “comedy” in the classical sense, there? Because otherwise, that makes no sense.
Hmm. Guess it didn’t make the cut for “Best Picture - Drama.” But no amount of disco music and jokes would make it a “musical or comedy” IMHO.
According to the link in my previous post, there’s been an argument regarding whether it is a drama with some comic moments or a comedy with some dramatic moments. I can see the argument for both. (Yes, hopefully one thing we can all agree on is it’s not a musical.)
I don’t see it as a comedy.
:dubious:
It sort of falls between the two. We should have a term for that. “Tragicomedy” won’t do, because there’s no real tragedy in this story. (Sure, it’s tragic he got left behind, but that’s stretching it.)
That sounds like a prescription sedative for housewives.
Let us not go there. ![]()
Well, the story arc is very dramatic so you can’t really say this is a comedy, though it does have a lot of comic moments and Watney has a huge sense of humor.
Kind of like actual real life.
“Life is a comedy to those who think, a tragedy to those who feel.” – Jean Racine
“It’s a chillingly accurate documentary” - George Takei, on GalaxyQuest.
I’d put in in the same category as those films featuring Moe Howard, Larry Fine, Curly .
It’s an adventure movie that has a slightly higher than usual amount of comic relief.
Maybe they thought the quips about Jessica Chastain’s music preferences were enough to make it a comedy?
But it coulda been. ![]()
Finally saw the movie - loved it! (saw it in the theatre even though it is coming to DVD soon)
If we are going to have a secret project called “Elrond”, then I want my code name to be “Glorfindel”.
Geeky quote in an already geeky movie…
Brian
Finally saw this. How did they do the weightless special effects?
Wires, probably.
