I’m not complaining, mind you, but I think you set some sort of record, Miss Roo!
OK, I recant my last satement, I was unaware of board glitches which caused multiple posts, and this is pretty damn obnoxious. I figured she maybe had Turrets (sp?) Syndrome. Manny, why so protective? I was on a roll damn it!
i agree. it is pretty damn annoying… i’d have to kick myself in the jaw if i ever did that on purpose.

Whew!! I finally got through!!
I, too, am a Megan. I wrote the details of how “Smeggy” came about in the most recent “explain your user name” thread, but to summarize, it came from my Dad, who, when I was little would pick me up and exclaim “It’s Meg E!” (Middle name starts with an “E”) and “it’s Meggy” (or “Smeggy”) was one of the first words I learned to say. The nickname stuck, and, I might add, brought many other, interesting connotations as we entered HS health and biology classes.
( I still haven’t figured out why people either tell me to or not to watch Red Dwarf. I have watched it twice now, and have heard no reference to smeggy. Any hints?)
Hooray for us, Megs and Megans alike!!
Hey again! I’ve never seen Red Dwarf so I couldn’t tell ya about the alleged Smeggy.
I’d like to add that it’s EXTRA cool that we all spell our collective name the right way.
Sucks to your assmar.
Omni:
A. (less important) I just thought “retarded” was a little harsh, even if the board hadn’t been malfunctioning.
B. (much more important) I’ve always thought Megan was a particularly sexy name, and I thought I’d try to create some good karma here.
No hard feelings, I hope.

smeggy: i don’t watch red dwarf, but i know some people who do… i’ll ask around.
manny: i must say that’s as good a reason as any.

Here’s the meaning of “smeg” on Red Dwarf from the FAQ at http://home.interpath.net/pat/rd/faq.html#Smeg :
It’s a word made up by Grant Naylor for the characters to use as an all-purpose profanity. Some fans have theorised that it was derived from “smegma” (a particularly unpleasant bodily secretion), but Rob and Doug deny this. In the interview on the CD included with the Six of the Best box set, they state that “we wanted to invent a futuristic curse word which had the right sort of consonant and vowel arrangement to make it sound like a genuine . . . curse word.” In an online chat session, Doug Naylor said “I think it’s Latin for clean, also there’s an Italian washing machine company called Smeg. Also each of the letters S-M-E-G stand for smelting metal and something to do with the washing machine process.” A detailed list of “smeg” references in the show is available at http://www.bristol.u-net.com/smegweb/docs/smeglist.html
I hope this bloody post works right, as it is my first one after months of lurking.

Im with you there Manhattan.
Any idea why the name is so evocative (to me) of the good wholesome ‘Mary Ann’ (as opposed to Ginger) sexiness to me?
