I don’t think that there was meant to be any implication whatsoever that it crossed either of the characters’ minds. But I think the writers got a good chuckle out of putting it in there.
I’m going with the “sly masturbation joke.” The writers would have known that it would be interpreted that way, but didn’t change it. But on the other hand, that show is so “G-rated” that I’m surprised they went that far.
I don’t remember the exact episode, but I’m pretty sure it was implied that Axel isn’t a virgin. So The Middle isn’t totally G-rated.
There was also the episode where Sue broke up with Brad because she caught him and another boy, …outside in the bushes, …where no one could see them,
…wait for it
smoking. :eek:
As an aside, neither IMDB nor wikipedia say much about the actor who plays Brad. I’d like to know if he’s straight, because if he is, he deserves an Emmy for his portrayal of Brad.
It’s not that the show is G rated, it’s just such a joke just doesn’t fit the general tone of the show. IMO.
