The misery of wisdom teeth

I’m in the military. I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. I went to get it done, and a young airman asked me what I had heard about the surgery. I told him some people told me it hurt, others told me it was fine. He said, “Sir, I’ll bet my paycheck against yours that you will ENJOY this procedure.” He was right. They stuck an IV in my arm, told me to count back from a hundred and the next thing I remember is the doctor taking the last stich and saying, “God I’ve been trying to work around that tongue all day.” followed by euphoria. The next thing I remember I was back in my room. The only pain was whenthey served me hard shell tacos for dinner. I was starving, but every bite was pain.

Like Big GiantHead, I had mine out in the Navy. No pain whatsoever, at least till the anesthesia wore off. Then I got to wander around the barracks on a great Demerol haze for the next week. Fortunately, it was Christmas leave, and the barracks were empty.

Get them ripped out, dude! Do it!

I went through this a couple of months ago, and had one impacted wisdom tooth taken out (if you’re interested, you can search for the story… it’s been told a few times, at least once in the past 2 or 3 weeks…).

It is NOT bad! as far as pain goes… in fact, I called the dentist a few days after my tooth extraction to ask him to yank the other three! He said to wait for symptoms… which means I have to go through that again 3 MORE TIMES! (the pain before, NOT the extraction!)

I must be a complete freak because I never had any problems with my wisdom teeth at all. They grew in perfectly and barely even hurt at all. My sister though had a lot of problems with her teeth coming in, so she had all four of her wisdom teeth pulled out under general anesthesia and then developed dry socket in all four sockets! She ended up in the emergency room, screaming in pain, and had to be given morphine and antibiotic shots. She said the dry socket syndrome hurt worse than the teeth did before they were pulled. Of course, I must add that the reason she developed dry socket syndrome was because her dentist told her to stop smoking for at least a few days, but she completely ignored him.

YOWCH!!!

My dentist told me (after taking out ONE of the wisdom teeth) to not smoke for 2 hours… which I did with no problems…

But, still, YOWCH!!!

Oh, BTW: FREAK! (someone had to say it!)

Ahem.

I had 2 of mine out when I was 16. I had very little pain, and never came close to taking all the pain medication. The best part was getting the stitches out - the dentist’s assistant did it. She was young, had red hair, and had my head pressed against her chest while removing the stitches. Almost made me want to get the other two out
