The more poor black people a city has, the more likely it is to ban guns.

How did you compute the correlation between those two lists?

Which explains the crime to gun control law ratio. More gun control laws = more crime. More legal gun owners = less crime. Every gun control law manufactures criminals from patriotic citizens.
People that support gun control are traitors to the Constitution

Correlation does not imply causation. It is equally true to say high crime causes gun control.

From my experiance many people in rural areas are at or near poverty levels but there is still less crime.
Might it not be that criminals are less likely to perpetuate crime against somebody they think might be armed and not afriad to kill them.
Gun control transfers a person’s right of self defense to the criminal.

It might not.

  1. What’s to stop a Virginian from driving guns into DC, filing off the serial numbers, and selling them by the truckload to whoever’s got cash?

It’s illegal. No self respecting criminal would want to break the law.
Most crimes are committed by repeat offenders. If we lock them up or kill them they will not be as inclined to repeat.
There was a case locally where a gang banger was arrested and given bail repeatedly til he finally got convicted and slapped on the wrists.
He was arrested on several drug crimes, He was let go several times for giving names. He shot another drug buddy. arrested for mob action, threatened to kill a cop over the phone, Threatened several other people. Committed armed robbery with a knife to an elderly ladies throat. He got 4 sentences of 8 years to be served concurrently instead of consecutively. Where is the justice, punishment or the protection of society in that?
I think that our biggest problem is that we don’t eradicate the violent criminals from our streets

Really? Are the states at the top of this list of per capita homicides by firearm really the ones with more gun control laws? (Top ten: Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Arkansas, California, Nevada, South Carolina, Illinois, Michigan, New Mexico).

I see Illinois, California & Michigan which have some of the most restrictive gun control laws. Now do the areas of the individual states with the most gun control & crime. Start with the Chicago Metro area & the rest of Illinois.

And yet you are also convinced violent criminals are so rational, they will stop committing crimes if they think they might get shot.

It is clear you believe what you want to believe, and fabricate facts to support your beliefs. Repetition does not imply confirmation.

Mmmmm. Those cherries look delicious.

This has got to be the stupidest post I have read in a long, long time.
Don’t you think it is the other way around : More crime makes people demand for tighter gun control?

And don’t even get me started on that stupid Constitution crap.
First of all, we still aren’t clear whether the founding fathers meant this to apply for militia or individuals, plus this document has been created in a very, very different time then the one we are living in.
Progress depends on the will of individuals and governments to look back at things that didn’t work out and change them.
If we keep living in the past we would never have gotten out of the Dark Ages.

We can’t deny the marriage between urban areas and poverty.

We can’t deny the marriage between poverty and race.

We can’t deny the marriage between poverty and desperation.

We can’t deny the marriage between desperation and crime.

We can’t deny the marriage between crime and guns.

And are you for real???

Call me a traitor then.

That’s why the Bloods and the Crips (or any pairs of rival gangs) rarely attack and kill each other. The high likelihood of encountering armed resistance keeps them from acting imprudently.

It’s hard to debate rationally when one is seized by strong emotions, especially fear.

All you have to do is yell us where gun control is working.

Really, if you don’t like the Constitution and want gun control there are plenty of places you can go that do not have the Constitution & do have gun control. Why do you feel the need to cram your beliefs down the other half of the countries throats? You’d be happy & I’d be happy.
If you read the debates from Jefferson you will know just what the intent of the 2nd Amendment was.
On a side intent of a law has little to do with anything. Once a law is made they are usually enforced to the letter with little regard for the intent of the legislators.

Citing a pro-gun website will not convince me of your point.
And fortunately I live in a country where there is a lot of gun control.
Very little people get killed here by gunfire.

You don’t seem to understand how things work around here. You have to make your own case; you don’t just link to a site and say, “Read these 37 articles and you will agree with me.”

Also, please do educate us on the Founders’ intent behind the 2nd amendment (which, as far as I can tell, never mentions self-defense against criminals as a reason for keeping guns). I’m not saying you’re wrong. I don’t know if you are wrong or right. I’m just saying that around here, you have to make your own case, and not rely on others to make it for you.

What I read of the debates was at least 6 years ago & almost as long as the new bail out bill. Mostly Jefferson. It was very good reading and if I did find everything published to the web it would take hours to copy & paste it.
If you will not educate yourself on the positions held by others there is nothing anybody can do for you.
There is good reading on the GOA site. If want to help make or disgredit my points copy and paste the whole works here or you are welcome to read it there.

I call bullshit. When I’m in GD or the Pit, and someone disagrees with me or challenges me to justify my view, I don’t say, “Oh, well, it’s your job to figure out why I’m right and you’re wrong” or “It’s your job to figure out why I believe what I do.” That’s a cop-out. I defend my position. If you aren’t willing to do the same, you aren’t welcome around here. You will find on the Straight Dope many many pro-gun posters. But the difference between you and them is that they are willing to put up or shut up.

Oh my good lord, butwhit. How many anecdotes are you going to pull in support of your argument?

Do you see anything wrong with this method of constructing an argument?

<Mod hat ON>Copying and pasting whole articles is NOT ALLOWED.
