Any parent who is not aware that art museums house works depicting naked people has only themselves to blame. How about some Goddamn respect for personal responsibility?

Well, I admit to Chefguy that Florida should be burned before Texas and Kansas are put to the torch. As to Texas, I don’t care what size the city is, the politicians and most of the otherwise appointed public officials (school teachers, etc., etc.) seem to exhibit what you refer to as Southern Baptist^3. I grew up in Dallas County and remember it well. I’ve said before, there are many great and wonderful people in Texas but the place still produces some of the most reactionary individuals who ever used oxygen the rest of us might someday need. I am not the least bit surprised by what is happening to the teacher in question, in spite of the arrant stupidity exhibited by her persecutors.
nope…its part of a childs education that the school district is supposed to provide. If a parent wants to home school their child, then they can and they can take them or not. If they are a raving moron and think that a public art museum is a bad influence then home school is a good option. but to drage all the other working parents kids down with them…people who may not be able to be off work to do so just so we can cater to the morons of the district is not a good idea for our society…its why Texas is fast becoming a national embarrasment.

We are talking about a fifth grade field trip. Art is usually neglected along with history and social studies. This is Texas. It’s football. Then its passing state tests (which aren’t art heavy). And getting the upwardly mobile into college. Art is pretty far down on the list. That’s a fucking reality, fortunately or unfortunately.
And, as has been pointed out already, the Texas education system is the most fucked up in the entire nation. If art weren’t neglected in favor of football and state tests, maybe that would change. Sure as hell won’t ever happen as long as we’ve got people like you around, though.

And let me say, when I think of great collections of art, Artesia does not exactly come to mind.
To point out how loopy he’s being, I really like the Freer-Sackler galleries, the Freer especially. I don’t really care for the American art, but the other stuff I really like. It’s been a couple years since I was last in the Freer but I’m sure there are at least a few nudes in most of the collections. However, I don’t remember any in the Japanese collection, though I wouldn’t be surprised that I’m wrong. However, let’s assume that I’m right. So, let’s say a school group goes to look at the Japanese collection. Now, remember, it’s a museum, so it’s easy enough to wander into other sections. Someone sees this statue (and it took me quite a while scanning the galleries to find this.) And, if I’m remembering correctly, the South Asian art is right next to the Japanese art (but I can’t find a map.) Anyway, now no child should be allowed to go see the Japanese part of the Freer-Sackler gallery.
