The most 60s song

For whatever reason, the first song that came to mind for me was 96 Tears by ? & The Mysterians.

“Green Tambourine” is the one that first leaped to mind for me.

My first, instinctive response:

If you were watching a movie, and they suddenly wanted to flash back to the 1960’s, what song would they play to set the scene? Creedence, Fortunate Son. Naturally.

Beat me to it.

I don’t know about that, but the Carl Carlton coveris one of the most 70s songs ever, that’s for sure.

“Purple Haze” is what I first thought of.

I came in to nominate the same song for the same reason.

In fact, I’ll argue that the Beach Boys can represent both the early and the late '60’s. Let’s do Fun, Fun, Fun for the early 60’s and call it a day.

Blowing in the Wind–Dylan lyrics, with Peter, Paul & Mary vocals.

Please mark me down as a third vote for “Good Vibrations”. Thank you.

This following program is dedicated to the city and people of San Francisco
Who may not know it but they are beautiful
And so is their city this is a very personal song
So if the viewer cannot understand it

Particularly those of you who are European residents
Save up all your bread and fly TransLove Airways to San Francisco U.S.A.
Then maybe you’ll understand the song, it will be worth it
If not for the sake of this song but for the sake of your own peace of mind…

Nothing screams 1960s to me like The Creation Making Time.

Mellow Yellow, by Donovan

Please please me - Beatles - it almost invented the 60’s - You could pick a couple of other early Beatles numbers

Satisfaction - Rolling Stones

Marrakesh Express - CSN

Woodstock - Joni Mitchell

It would be remiss of me not to mention Soul Bossa Nova, as it’s shagadelic.

My first thought was “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.” But it’s really difficult, since the music changed so much across the decade.

“Feelin’ Groovy” by Simon and Garfunkel.

Totally agree! First thing that came to my mind as well!

I think it’s because it sounds like it straddles the line between the early and late parts of the decade - it could have been released almost any year of the '60s. Plus, the organ.

Jefferson Airplane -White Rabbit

Oops.
