My dad took Military C rations (vietnam era) on hunting trips. They were a decade past the expiration date. I’d eat them now if the cans were ok and weren’t swollen.
Most canned goods like green beans, corn, and soup are good for several years past a expired date.
Milk has to pass the smell test. I can usually use it a few days past the ex date.
We’re in AZ now. Because of health issues, we haven’t been out here as much as we’d like.
Expired stuff is prevalent.
I found some shelf-stable rice milk, expired 2023. I shook it up thoroughly, refrigerated it, and I’ve been drinking it for several days now. I’m not dead yet.
I made pork chops for dins last night. Mr VOW thinks pork is illegal unless buried under applesauce. The applesauce expired in 2023. It was a little more brown colored than newer applesauce, and he was sure he was risking hoof-and-mouth disease if he ate it.
I buy the unsweetened applesauce. If I had sweetened stuff in the house, I bet it would be bright, light-colored, and have an expiration date in the next decade.
