I am eagerly awaiting the other Vegas commercials I haven’t seen. Back to the OP, although placing ads in NYC seems like a long way to go for a joke, I gotta admit my BS detector was pretty high on this one. But I had a lawyer friend look them up in Martindale-Hubbell and they are indeed for real, FWIW. ---

One of the ambulance chasers in my area had the worst commercials. Right after saying how he would help you get the money you deserve for your pain and suffering, there was a lady holding up some ridiculous amount of money and yelling how it was even better than Christmas. ---

I think the ads are funny. Sick humor, but I’d bet a dollar they are intended to be that way. Someone went through a lot of difficulty making sure you could see the grin on the injured stick people. I’m also thinking that if you fill out their form, a couple college kids on the other end make fun of you for next hour and a half during happy hour. ---

I was trying to think of this local commercial I see all the time. I couldn’t remember exactly how it went, but it just came on. This isn’t really offensive, just stupid. Remember it’s a local ad, so the production quality is really poor … on video, blaring lights, a set that looks like a high school play … you see a sort of stage deal, with colored lights shining down and some gold lame looking curtains hanging in the back ground. Some gay carnival music starts playing (and by gay I mean gay/happy/light – the original meaning of the word) and a guy comes tooling out on stage riding a unicycle. He twirls around smiling with the music going round and round and he starts juggling, first three bowling pins and then four … The voice over: “Skill. Skill is doing what others find impossible. Finkel, Funkel, Frankel and Schwartz law offices. Personal injury lawyers who know what they’re doing.” … or words to that effect. So I have a personal injury that I think I’m due compensation for and I’m going to hire the morons on the unicycles? ---

THis wasn’t exactly offensive, just surreal, and it’s what the ads reminded me of. My mom tells me she once saw a poster in an ob/gyn’s office, an ad for some medical equipment, that featured a mother in labour surrounded by doctors, and they are all grinning like idiots, _even the mother_. It was very Lieutenant Worf. “You may now give birth.” ---

If they _weren’t_ a real law firm, I’m sure that real lawyers representing the dozens of real-life corporate entities that they list as past clients would make that site vanish in an amusing blaze of litigation, post haste. They appear to be the real deal, and I’d hire them in a second, based on their mad marketing skillz alone. (Their Devil’s Advocate logo/sigil is pretty cool, too.) ---

I think the problem here is that the little cartoons are really badly drawn, and what are meant to be non-committal expressions have been drawn by the clearly talentless artist as smiles.
