I pit my teenage self for sending my summer job money to my Internet boyfriend so he could fly cross-country and come visit me for a week, in the hopes that it would salvage our dying relationship. I want those seven days and $300 back, dammit. ---

I was working in the oil field and was going back a right-of-way and found trees had been downed to block the road. As I hiked up the right-of-way, I was confronted by people with guns who threatened me and said they would blow up the oil tank if I didn’t leave. Either that or my MIL. Yeah, I’d rather be shot at. ---

When I was eighteen and just starting college, I became depressed (this was when I was diagnosed with OCD), and my best friend just pretty much abandoned me. Instead of being there for me, I even learned she was making fun of me behind my back, and when I confronted her about it, neither she (nor her mother!) understood what the big deal was. “After all, it’s not like you have anything to be ashamed of!” Bitch. I stood by her through a lot of crap, and then the minute I needed someone, she bails. When I was eleven, my godmother and my favorite aunt finally faced up to the fact that she was an alcoholic and got sober. She went through detox, started going to AA, and everything was going really great for her…for about six months. Then she caught some kind of infection and because her body still hadn’t healed enough to deal with it, it ended up being fatal. :mad: Three years ago, when I was diagnosed with epilepsy. Now I’m on two different medications, which means I’m taking roughly seven pills a day, (depending on which miligram tablets are available and which are cheapests. I have no insurance). That’s in ADDITION to the OCD meds. ---

Wow, too many to choose from. [ul] [li]The guy who raped my mom at knifepoint when she was 8 months pregnant with me, making it impossible for her ever to “bond” with me; she began trying to get rid of me when I was 9.[/li][li]Watching my dad punch my mom in the face, and then years later tell me I imagined it.[/li][li]Being backhanded in the face by my dad’s dad when I was 10 for arguing with his contention that the black people in town should use their own swimming pool. (The white townspeople found swimming with the “negros” so distasteful that they built another pool and “gave the old pool to the negras. What more do they want?”) He gave me a bloody nose for trying to explain it to him.[/li][li]Being taken out of highschool by my grandfather because I was unable to leave my dormroom from depression. No such thing: apparently I just had no self-discipline.[/li][li]Telling my first post-puberty crush how I felt about him, and having him tell everyone at school that I was gay. Then he led a gang to beat me up.[/li][li]My mom telling me at 16 that if she thought I was gay she would kill herself.[/li][li]Being fired from KEXP with no reason given, after nothing but glowing, enthusiastic appreciation for my work, only to find out a couple years later that the woman who fired me did so just to show everyone who was in charge of that department. (I wasn’t stepping on her toes, another coworker was, and she fired me just to show she could.)[/li][li]Being lectured by a collections caller that I should “take responsibility for my debts,” when the debt in question was due to a medical emergency (ambulance, almost died), not a wide screen TV.[/li][li]Several Dope specific incidents, but that would be asking for it.[/li][/ul] ---

I am not really interested in posting anything really personal, but I have a fairly minor one. I was a consultant, and trying to get the travel component scaled back a little. I was on a job that was a 2 hour drive from home, and there was a consultant (same firm, same department as me) that lived in that town. So boss thought it would be a good idea for me to train this other consultant to do this project, and then I wouldn’t have to drive, and this guy could get the billable hours. Cool. So, being the very thorough person that I am, I wrote a macro to simplify this report that had to be done daily on this project, in Excel. I then proceeded to write the instructions of the data he needed to input into the form. I numbered the instructions, because I believe in clarity. Of course my intent was that you start with step one (which was also on page 1). There were 3 pages of instructions (typed), in order to pull together all the data. So, on a day that was specifically planned for me to not come in until noon (to give him time to work through the report - which btw was after 3 days of him doing it while I watched and supervised) I come in and he is freaking out because the client wants the report and “its not working”. It wasn’t working because he started on step 4 (which was on page 2) rather than step 1 on page 1. :smack: Really guy, you are a business professional, have been in business 10 yrs longer than I have, and despite training on the process, you aren’t smart enough to start at step 1?? :rolleyes: Then, to fix it, I just took over, cause I knew I could whip it out in 30 minutes, when it would take him easily two hours. Then he complained to my boss that I was mean. My boss called and told me that’s what he said. That I was “mean”. I explained to my boss the full situation and that ended it, and thankfully I never had to be on another project with that moron again. ---

My most pittable event, and I have mentioned it here before, is definitely my real mother showing up when I was fourteen to tell me I was hers, and that she would always be here for me, and then disappearing out of my life - and my adoptive parents steadfastly refusing to talk about me, “the biggest mistake that ever happened”, for years and years. To this day they don’t want to talk about it. ---

I am not **mswas** , but if he what he finds pittable about the response is the PATRIOT ACT, the Iraq war, unthinking nationalism, and the complete pass the populace as a whole gave to Bush administration for a few years, then I would have to agree. Being shocked, angry, upset, wanting answers, even wanting vengeance, completely understandable and not really pit-worthy. The country as a whole checking out of rationality for several years not so much. Jonathan ---

When I was 14 an indigenous girl in the year below me got pregnant (she was 13) the girl said her father had been raping her. My father’s comment was a big \*yeah right \*- she’s a _coon_:mad: she was was probably opening her legs to everyone she could - probably opened her legs to her father too. I love my dad but he can be a racist misogynistic prick sometimes and I have never forgiven him for his comments about a child in trouble :mad::mad::mad: ---

(Too late for edit) Which reminds me. I pit the non apathetic towards the death of Princess Diana in Britain who made our own nation look like a bunch of weeping pussies. She was a woman totally unrelated to 99.999 percent of the people who wailed and sobbed at her funeral. I didn’t much like the woman when she was alive. I dislike the royals except for the small comfort that their existence provides something interesting about Britain for foreigners to talk about.
