[The Denon AKDL1 Dedicated Link Cable](http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000I1X6PM/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) It costs $500 for a mere 1.5 meters, so obviously you’re going to get your money’s worth. Digital sound will be more digital than you could ever _dream_. It’s not just 1s and 0s, it’s 1s and 0s that will _kick your ass_. The reviews are not to be missed, of course. If you don’t believe me, believe the people whose lives have been changed by Denon. ---

Hm. It’s vibration, jitter and rumble resistant, weather resistant, and has anti-aging properties! So, when a hurricane, earthquake, tsunami, volcano takes out your house, destroys all your equipment, and you wake up 100 years later in your time-stasis machine, gosh darn it this cable will be there for you! 😉 I’m looking at the cabling chapter of my network+ guide right now and I’m not seeing anything about vibration, jitter or rumble, and the only “weather resistance” you’re generally worried about is what toxic chemicals it gives off in a fire. ---

James Randi has a standing challenge to people who believe this type of stuff is a lick better than the el cheapo stuff from Wal-Mart, Best Buy, etc. If you can tell the difference between these and cheap cables in a double-blind test, you win. No one has won. ---

Ah, yes, the realm of the Gear Geek. It’s the same way with guitar cords - folks will pay hundreds or thousands of dollars to get anodized this and gold-plated that… …what’s hilarious is that some of the most respected players - Hendrix and Stevie Ray being well-known examples - who went out of their way to find cheap-ass, Radio Shack curly cords - the kind you got for $8.99 back in the 60’s and 70’s, and which had a right-angle jack at one end that didn’t last long - because they liked how those cords sounded (the cords were long and inefficient, so cut some of the highs…) I know - with stereo and computer cabling you want completely flat signal transmission, whereas with a guitar rig, you want stuff that affectst the tone, as long as it sounds good - but it is still silly… ---

I am not following the point of this thread at all. It sounds like people think they enjoy “music” yet insist on buying their cables from the discount bin at Wal-Mart. I figure if you do something, do it right. [These cables at $23,000 for an 8’ pair](http://j-walkblog.com/index.php?/weblog/posts/expensive_speaker_cables/) are the best things I ever bought (except for the receiver, pre-amp, amp, speakers, electromagnetic shielding, and electrical purifier to go with it). Double-blind testing my ass. I know minute improvements when I think I hear them. ---
