This film provided inspiration for me in a long fight I had, and ultimately won (more like a TKO in boxing terms, I suppose - but _they_ paid _me_!), against my former employers. When I put the phone down, I started to beat myself up for apparing such a dolt. THEN, it came to me. That’s exactly how you are best served as appearing. So, after that, from time to time - the pre-trial lasted 19 months; would have been longer if I hadn’t contested all the delays they asked for - I would ask something I knew the answer to: to encourage them to underestimate me, to do things they wouldn’t normally do (in terms of taking risks - lawyers are very risk-averse), and to make them think I was an easy enemy. Shades of _The Art of War_ (which I had read) as well. Best advice my second lawyer gave me (he popped up again to help me “out of court”, ie sit in the public gallery during the High Court trial, set for 21 days) was about the witnesses for the Defence, mostly my ex colleagues and friends. “They will all lie”. He was right. ---
