One of my local morning radio shows often does “The Mt Rushmore of \_\_\_\_\_”. For instance, the other morning they had a heated debate of the four top Saturday Morning Cartoon icons. Or “The Mt. Rushmore of Saturday Morning Cartoons” - who’s face do we chisel on the mountain side.

This morning they started in on The Mt Rushmore of (Childhood) Breakfast Cereal. I found myself screaming “Captain Crunch you IDIOT!” at my dashboard as they replaced it with Raisan Bran. :smack: (Its just didnt make sense!!)

So… here’s my Mt Rushmore of Cereal:

1. Captain Crunch
2. Lucky Charms
3. Rice Krispies
4. Coco Puffs

Lets hear your opinions and arguments!

I’d think Cheerios would be one for sure.

And then maybe a fruity cereal like Trix or Fruit Loops. Probably go with Trix since it seems to be a bit more popular (or at least it was back in my day).

I like your nomination of Rice Krispies, so that would be my third, although for a _cereal_, it’s really bland (well, my opinion). As a _treat_, though, it’s rarely beaten. So that alone would catapult it into the mountainside.

The last spot I can’t decide on. There’s like a 20 place tie for it in my mind.

That doesn’t quite work. ISTM that for the Mt. Rushmore, you’d need to choose four faces to carve into the mountainside, and Rice Krispies would take up three of them (Snap, Crackle, and Pop).

Let’s go with Cap’n Crunch, Tony the Tiger, Toucan Sam, and the Trix Rabbit.

Also, it’s a hijack, but you might enjoy [this](http://www.webcomicsnation.com/poyorick/botg/series.php?view=archive&chapter=10960) (and you’ll have the advantage here, because all three books are already up, so you don’t have to wait week by week for updates to be able to read the whole thing. It _was_ worth it, though).

My parents always made us eat Total. Or Cheerios. No sugar cereal for you!

I would say:

1. Raisin Bran
2. Cheerios
3. Rice Krispies
4. Cocoa Puffs

Although #4 could be replaced with Cap’n Crunch, Lucky Charms or Froot Loops.

Oh man! I TOTALLY forgot about Fruit Loops!! Ok, Rice Krispies OUT… Toucan Sam IN!

I get Cheerios… but for my personal taste and childhood, i’d go with Kix. I still love the stuff!

I used to love the old school Trix, but when they changed to fruit shapes, I stopped eating them. Somehow they werent as good.

They’re round again.

It was annoying when Trix wasn’t round because it spoiled the Kix/Trix parallel.

You can’t have a Mt. Rushmore of cereals without Wheaties, _The Breakfast of Champions_

Wheaties
Trix
Sugar Frosted Flakes
For the 4th slot I’d suggest a joint commemoration of Cheerios and Froot Loops, linked together like the Olympic rings.

</div>

It seems to me that Kellogg’s Corn Flakes is the George Washington of breakfast cereals. It’s the one that started the whole notion of “breakfast cereal” to begin with, and Wheaties and Raisin Bran are just following its precedent.

For the second, we also can’t have a cereal mountain without Cheerios.

For the third, we need one representative of the whole “sugar as the first three ingredients” category of cereals, but I’m not sure whether Trix or Froot Loops is the better candidate, here. Does anyone know offhand which one came first?

And I really don’t know for the fourth, but I’m leaning towards Rice Krispies.

For me, it would be:

Raisin Bran
Rice Chex
Frosted Mini Wheats
Corn Flakes.

But going by history, I’d say

Corn Flakes
Cheerios
Cocoa Krispies
Shredded Wheat

Without reading this thread.

Grape Nuts
Corn Flakes
Raisin Bran
Honeycomb

American.
It covers all of the principle grains (including oats)… They are the grandaddies that cover the granola, flake, cereal and fruit, and sugar frosted cereal techs.

This is the exact cereal Mt Rushmore I envisioned, maybe with some guy a few mountains away making his own monument to the Cheerio’s Bee.

that should be, “and the extruded, sugar frosted, cereal tech”.

Extrusion and Sugar Frosting Technologies and Processing are the Lincoln.

Lucky Charms
Apple Jacks
Cap’n Crunch
Count Chocula

Since we’re carving into a mountain, I lean towards historical and cultural significance versus personal taste.

1. Corn Flakes Cornelius rooster (George Washington role)
2. Cheerio’s Bee
3. Rice Krispies elves (The first cereal mascot)
4. Sugar cereal: I would leave it open to popular vote between Tony the Tiger, Toucan Sam, Trix Rabbit, Cap’n Crunch. My vote would be for Tony the Tiger (bird, insect, humanoid, and mammal) He’s Grrrreat!

I’d vote for Cap’n Crunch, but for two problems:

- It lacerates the roof of your mouth when you eat it. It’s like little pillows of sandpaper!
- After you’ve poured in your Cap’n crunch, eaten it, then poured some more into the same bowl, the milk starts to get disgusting. Depending on how hungry you are, the Cap’n’s flavory crunchy goodness can overcome the milk destruction for two or three refillings. But at some point… ew, the milk.

Exactly. You have to do the spokesmascots. I’m mostly in agreement with your choices, but I’d replace Toucan Sam with Lucky the Leprechaun.

Works for me! I’d be tempted to replace one of them with Lcuky the Leprechaun, but which one?

Although it would be cool as hell to have an actual mountain with the faces of Count Chocula, Frankenberry, Booberry, and … I guess Fruit Brute, if you need a fourth … carved into it.
