I’m guessing you’re too young to have been watching when Eddie Murphy was originally on. During his time, he was The Star of the show, in a way that I don’t think any other cast member ever has been. He’s largely responsible for taking a show that was irrelevant and in danger of cancellation and making it hot again.

Any megastructure of SNL without Dana Carvey is totally lame.

Meh. Carvey had Bush and that’s about it.
