Anyone know what that sort of operatic song they use in one of the X2 commercials is? It was also used extensively in the nuclear weapons documentary “Trinity and Beyond”. It sounds a bit like “O Fortuna” but that’s not what it is. ---

I’m not sure about the commercial, but during the movie itself, they made excellent use of _Dies Irae_ from the Mozart Requiem. ---

The music used in the [first trailer](http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/x2/) is the _Mars: Bringer of War_ segment from Gustav Holst’s _The Planets_. I didn’t notice any operatic singing (or any music that strongly projected itself at all) in the [second trailer](http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox/x2/02/). ---

Nope, its not _Mars_. Perhaps this music was only used in the Canadian commercials. I’ll look into _Dies Irae_ but I’m very suspicious about it being anything by Mozart. ---

Hm. Well, then, I went and looked up [_Trinity and Beyond_](http://www.vce.com/trinity.html) (warning: bandwidth-intensive site), and the music used in its trailer – which does have a bit of the “O Fortuna” feel to it – is [_Thor Missles_](http://www.vce.com/music/vce.com_tri5.mp3) (link is to an .MP3). If that’s the same music used in your _X2_ commercial, then it’s new material originally composed for _Trinity_. ---

This is driving me nuts. That’s not it either! The piece I’m thinking of is operatic in nature. Hmm, maybe I should start a thread specifically regarding its use in _Trinity and Beyond_. ---

Well, bummer. According to IMDB, Holst’s _Planets_ was played without credit in _Trinity and Beyond_, but since we’ve already established that to be incorrect for your _X2_ commercial, I don’t suppose we should pursue that path any further. Anyway, since I have no idea what commercial you’ve seen (and the ones I’ve dug up don’t match), we’re left with guessing. Wagner’s music would be plausible candidates, and I’m thinking specifically of “Siegfried’s Funeral March” from _Götterdämmerung_. Another popular piece to accompany belligerant action is, of course, “Ride of the Valkyries.” Other than that, I’m at a loss for now.
