Actually it was something of a rhetorical question as the question of how matter feels pain is indisputedly not known at this time.
I’m (loosely) familiar with the concept of supervenience, but in this case it seems it’s just restating the problem. Yes pain is a phenomena that somehow comes about from the neural structure of our brains. How?

I’m afraid that question is above my pay grade.
