On the pop culture/sense of humor in personal interaction level, I’d say **Eve**. With regard to politics, skepticism, arguing and that sort of thing, **Diogenes the Cynic**. Those are two of the Dopers I most admire. ---

Hey! And I didn’t even vanity search! I feel like **Lobs** and I understand each other (or would) a great deal. But, I do know there are some major differences in us, mostly in beliefe structures. Politics: I am ever so slightly unconventional. Though I am strongly conservative, I hold to some views and ideals that some would consider leftish. For instance, I would prefer that government be less intrusive in our daily lives, but I hate seeing the disadvantaged kept in a position of virtually perpetual serfdom. What to do about it? Better minds than I have been working at a solution for centuries and nothing yet. So, So… I keep to myself while hoping for change. This is probably the most I’ve ever posted politically on the SDMB, btw. Religion (or lack of): I consider myself Christian but consider most of the Churches as having either left basic Bible teachings or having hypocrisied (real word?) the Word. Yeah, I believe there had to be a God, but I refuse to get sucked into Creationism which I feel is yet another bastardisation of Truth As I See It.™ YMMV. I seem to remember you describing yourself as a Soft Athiest. While our core is different here, we have probably adopted some similar peripherial beliefs. Culture: Ain’t got none! A mix here, too. While fascinated by my mixed heritage (Prussian, Irish, and Commanche), I have sought out other groups to invest in socially. I’m funkier than Bootsy Collins, have more Latin heat than Gloria Estephan, and am more Country than that dog riding monkey doing barrel races at the rodeo. No matter where I go, tho, I’m Texan. It always comes up and always comes out. Usually not by me, but I am damn proud of who I am and where I’m from. More interesting to me than any current culture is what I find out (or imagine) about ancient peoples. Especially the ones that never get pop coverage. Put me in the 20th century BCE, in Ireland, Northeast Europe, the Americas, or Far East Pacific and I would eat it up. Until someone killed me for not quite fitting in. Socially: Sometimes I really hate people. Other times I must be around them. I have a few extremely close friends who are more than even family to me, and tons of friendly-ish acquantfriends. I can be equally at home in the wildest of club scenes, or in a group of 4 playing Scrabble. I also have interests that few of my friends share or even understand. I can be very dark and manipulative, though I try not to be. I would truly prefer a simple life of peace and calm to any action scenario one could dream up, but I would feel it beyond my control to refuse the action. I am lazy and hedonistic but I also revel in doing a perfect job of a difficult task. I am constantly drawn to what my friends describe as wild women, but that works well with my manic depression. As soon as it’s no longer a good time, we drift apart or break up. Sometimes it is bad. REALLY bad, but I seem to be alright most of the time. Consider yourself lucky. Though much of this could be gleaned from or guessed at by reading two years of posts, I’ve never actually spelled it out so clearly in one post. But, somehow, someway, I feel a kinship with you, Mr. Manx. Out side of the miles and a slight age difference, I think we would be pretty close associates. I’ve always thought that **Otto** was the person on SDMB that was most similar to myself. We come from about the same area, and everytime I see a topic that I have some knowledge in his reply is usually one of the first 5 and says EXACTLY what I was going to say. And to think that when I first got here I was angry because he had stolen MY name. The whole thing has actually been creeping me out for a while now. ---

**twickster** and I have similiar tastes in fiction reading as well as in non-fiction. We both are interested in the how and why things exist. We both are likewise cluelesss and baffled by the ways of eight year old boys, despite the fact that I HAVE an eight year old boy! 😃 ---

There are some people who I think are in sync with my fundamental core. Yet, there is usually a side that is the complete opposite of me. Take **Eve** , for instance. We’re opposites, yet similar in lots of ways. For one thing, _she doesn’t wear jeans!!!_ Yet, we both understand pearls. She’s a democrat, but she’s not big on rock music. She _loves_ a good anti-anxiety pill, but doesn’t cotton to the hooch (which I sometimes consider a food group!). She’s a riot, but has a very sensitive side. A multi-faceted gem, that Eve. Then there’s **ShirlyUjest**. Although she’s conservative, most of the time it’s unnoticeable 😉 . She’s uproariously funny and quick-witted. She is very devoted to her family, as I am. She’s just my cuppa tea. ---
