Just thought I’d chime in to say I think the coverage is pretty decent this year. Not great, maybe, but I’ve seen a hell-of-a-lot worse. There have been surprisingly few feel-good “this athlete was discovered living on aisle three at kmart by some washed up coach” stories, and to me it seems more like they’re focusing on the medal contenders, not just the Americans.
My only gripe is that swimming bores me to tears. I want to see some Tennis, Softball, or Soccer (I’ve seen some Soccer, but it’s hard to know what’s going on when the comentary is en Espanol).
And I like Beach Volleyball, thank you very little. And it’s not just for the wimmens, I swear!
I love the women’s fencing “coverage” they just did. I saw a couple of the last matches on Bravo, which were very exciting, but then they told us that we’d have to tune in to NBC for the final match, for the gold. Turn on NBC, sit through a quick swimming semifinal, and then they show only highlights of the fencing match! They showed maybe four or five of the points scored, then went on to the medal ceremony…
Yesterday morning I taped the cross country part of the equestrian three day event and watched it last night.
Just how hard is it to film a horse from one end of the course to the other? Is it really necessary to stop at the sixth jump with the 1st horse and go back to the beginning for the 2nd horse? And then watch the 3rd horse finish the course? And then go back to the 8th jump for the 4th horse? And back to the beginning yet again to watch the 5th horse start? And why didn’t you ever show the 1st fucking horse finish the goddamn course? Who the fuck directed that shit?
