Coming next spring to cable television, a new series: Law & Order: D.S.C.U. \*\*Yes, the Department of Sanitation Crimes Unit. They are the men and women who scour the streets. Theirs is a soiled past and an exceedingly odorous present. Bad things happen. Some say that garbage is innocent. They’re wrong. Dead wrong.\*\* Starring: Dana Elcar as the overweight athsmatic Captain Robert Klein as the ex-comic turned dour actor Jerry Stiller as Morty, the affectionate pub owner where the D.S.C.U. folks hang out off-hours until he’s tragically taken out in a bizarre Hefty Bag serial killing in Episode 4. Cartoonuniverse, the units is Sanitation Enforcement. They look into illegal dumping, vehicles blocking the way of mechanical brooms sweeping gutters, among other tasks. ---

Dana Elcar lost his sight to glaucoma during the run of MacGyver (it was written into the show), and then played a blind man in an original L&O episode. I think of him everytime I get a glaucoma check from my eye doctor. I’d love to see him act again. I remember the L&O: Parking Violations joke, although I’m not sure if it’s from SNL or some other source.
