Many moons ago in one of the “What would you want the New Star Trek to be” threads on here, this was exactly what I wrote I wanted it to be. Like American Horror Story, each season a new setting and new characters. It could run forever. If true, it’s perfect. I may actually get CBS’s stupid streaming service now. ---

It terrifies me to think about what the budget for a Star Trek anthology show would be like, especially after they cleaned out and sold the stuff in the prop and costume warehouse. ---

Why not go for the Gold Standard, and make _each episode_ have its own characters, cast, and backstory? It would be just like Twilight Zone! ---

The whole point of the original series was that it was not an anthology but a self-contained community of regular characters with whom viewers could identify, just like Dodge City on _ **Gunsmoke** _. When you have a ship that can take you to a different planet every week, what’s the point of having a collection of unknowns in unrelated stories? Each story is unique, regardless of who’s in it. ---

Each story is unique, regardless of who’s in it. Agreed. The point of the ship is that every episode can be a self-contained science fiction story. All you need to do is travel to a new planet, and you’ve got a blank slate for whatever situation you want to explore. The one thing that might improve is to shake up the crew all the time. People should be changing assignment a lot more frequently, new crew should added and old crew should be transferred away. You don’t want a situation where your XO is stuck on the same ship playing 2nd banana for 8 years, that would be career suicide. ---
