Ok, I’m up for some abuse. I’ve been around for just over a month, and while I’ve had a few people talk to me, they were mostly kinda pissed off (I politely asked the vegans not to criticize my food choices). I like Hashing (hence the name), which has nothing to do with cannabis. It’s like follow-the-leader, but with beer. I made the front page of a local Boulder newspaper this week while engaging in this activity. I assume “newbies check in” in the title slug was an imperative? Oh, well. When in Rome… Being a vinyl geek is how I came to my SDMB alter ego…I am firmly convinced that music is meant to be consumed in 20-25 minute increments, and that every possible form of entertainment is better when consumed in two acts. This would explain why I catch up on the SDMB for an hour, then have lunch and come back. I hereby solemnly promise that I will _not_ invoke the name of a long-standing board member with a salutation as the third item of any list. Never, never, never. Do I get a cookie? ---

Umhm yeah, Hi… Sidney Mussberger (from “The Hudsucker Proxy”) here. From Sweden and stumbled onto the SDMB when there was an all out Evolution vs. Creation war on [Footballguystalk.com](http://www.footballguystalk.com) I took one look at the [“A sonnet about my new office chair”](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=111767) and realized that I’d probably hang around here for quite a while. Hello. I’ve lurked for a time here but I am a newbie to the registration and posting processes. Believe me, if I’d seen this thread prior to posting my first notes, I’d have made this my first stop. We are nothing without our protocols and rules of order after all. Having seen the reaction to those who’ve overused the “I” word (I), one puzzles over how else to respond to a request for self-disclosure. There’s nothing about me you’d want to know anyway, but since that’s the drill here… You’ll notice right off that I’m not innately clever, but I can toss the BS with the best of them (assuming the Them in question are also not terribly clever). I would like to say that in my misspent (or at least heavily mortgaged) youth I was twhacked repeatedly about the head and heart, resulting in minor damages and a few social quirks, so if you good people of the SDMB could take that into consideration you will find me embarrassingly grateful. "ello Miss hardy I’m apparently a nice guy, have convinced myself and others that I’m a creative person, enjoy amusing myself (no, not like that!) and others with humor and random ideas. I’m still slightly intimidated by much of the SDMB, especially the Great Debates (major brainpower there). I enjoy unusual things: buildings, clothing (I have a wooden tie!) and weird movies (as fits my name) and just general oddities, which is where the SDMB fits in. I like SG-1, the Daily Show, and other shows (including one which will cause me to get the hose) and read pretty much anything (but I can’t read 'em twice; I can forget my address but not a book I read a year ago ☹ ) Oh, and GTA3. Well, I’ve been here a few months but I still have a low enough post count that I think I qualify as a newbie. I’m a 24 year old female. I went to a women’s college. I now work at a biotech company but I’m applying to medical school. I sing, make very good pies, and keep telling myself that once I’m back in shape I’ll start fencing again. I only post in frivolous threads because on the rare occasions that I have an informed opinion on a GD thread someone else has already said it. ---

OK **hardygrrl** , I’ll bite. But not hard, unless you’re into that sort of thing. Although I lurked for quite awhile, I registered in March, 2002 and still have less than 100 posts so I imagine I qualify as a newbie. My first post, while not a blockbuster, appears to have been at least a critical success ( **Eutychus** , among others, said nice things about it). Like many people around here (here meaning on this board), I work in the tech industry. I read a lot, mostly SF, and have an unfortunate tendency to make bad jokes/puns (also like many around here). Living in Arizona, I’m a D-Backs and Suns fan, will root for the Coyotes on the rare occasion I watch or attend a game, and wish that Bidwell would either sell the Cardinals, or go away entirely (like many people everywhere). From the looks of this post, I also tend to use parentheses a lot (I’m not entirely sure why). I’m 33, I’m an Arizona native, and I’m married to an amazing woman. On the whole, I find the people of the SDMB to be a delightful mix of posters, with contributions that range from the sublime to the ridiculous.
