# The new "whopper melts "from burger king are they as bad as reported?

Whether I misremember or their quality has really gone downhill, I had BK few weeks ago and thought, “This is crap.” Not quite Wendy’s horrible but close.

I’d definitely try a sourdough whopper. I just checked BK on door dash. It’s not listed.
I did see the whopper patty melt. I never buy patty melts because they’re covered in caramelized onions.

That’s funny. In my area Wendy’s are putting BK’s out of business. They are cleaner, faster, updated stores, better employees, and kept the 4 for 4 throughout covid and this inflation.

I had to try one today.
It’s a double burger with cheese, Carmelized onions and stacker sauce (?) like sorta sweetish remoulade on toasted (grilled?) bread.
Messy yes. Tasty enough but the meat wants to slide out of the bread. I’d order again less cheese and sauce though.

I;ve seen a lot of online ads for the sandwich, and although I like BK I won’t try the melt because you can tell it’s smaller than a regular Whopper

Because you don’t like caramelized onions or you just hate onions?
I adore a well-made patty melt. I’d never go to BK for one. And I never go to McD’s at all.

I will say that BK totally came out with a fantastic chicken sandwich - the Ch’King is suprisingly tasty. I also grab an Impossible Whopper from there from time to time when I’m feeling it.

Onions and bell peppers give me heartburn. I miss out on a lot of good food. The Cajun Holy Trinity (onion, celery and bell pepper) is a big part of my extended family"s diet.
I make patty melts at home without onion.

The strange contrast between praise and disdain for Burger King, especially mention of dirty or poorly managed locations, suggests to me that they have quality control/management problems that in some instances harm what is basically a good product. As I said, the BK near my old place (though this was over ten years ago) was crappy, but the one near here is just fine. Consistency is one of the things that McDonald’s seems to have figured out, though unfortunately the result is clean, well-managed places that consistently produce crappy food! 😉

I suspect that this is the case – Burger King’s restaurants appear to be all franchisee-owned, and I agree, I’ve seen a number of BKs that seem to be poorly operated and maintained.
McDonalds are primarily franchised, though the parent corporation operates about 5% of their U.S. restaurants, and apparently the parent corporation owns _all_ of the real estate – so even with franchised restaurants, the franchisee operates it, but McDonalds owns the building. McDonalds is also fairly well-known for its strict policies which franchisees must follow, such as mandated restaurant remodels, which probably help them deliver a more consistent experience.
