The new WTC - Rebuild the damn towers!

I figured that was the other possibility. Overly defensive stereotypical NYC asshole who thinks nobody but you has any insight.

P.S., Lola:

Joe_Cool stated that he has worked in Manhattan, therefore he is a NYC taxpayer. But don’t let facts interfere with righteous indignation

For the record, I wish I hadn’t hit submit on my previous post. If a mod would delete the text of the message, I’d appreciate it.

What I would prefer to have said is this:

Lola, you are not contradicting my point, you are confirming it. You really are acting like the stereotype New Yorker - the unfavorable stereotype. You’re further reinforcing the stereotype when you say, basically, “Why the hell are you bringingi Jerusalem into this??” “…this is about how [sic] NEW YORKERS…” Obviously it doesn’t matter, since it isn’t New York. The reason it’s relevant is that bombings, etc, are an almost daily occurrance in Jerusalem. Not a week goes by that I don’t read about people killed in explosions there. But we Americans expect them to “suck it up” and keep talking peace with the scum that is doing the bombing, so that the president, senators, cabinet staff, etc can look good offering them Statehood. As long as it isn’t hurting our political agenda, we (collectively) don’t give a damn about what they have to put up with. We don’t even like to tolerate their controlled military response against the terrorists (conveniently ignoring the fact that we are in the process of annihilating an entire government for the attacking us).

But then, it isn’t New York, so it doesn’t matter.

There is no such thing as “unique to us.” Either an event is unique, or it is not. And there really is no new thing under the sun. Terrorism has been around for centuries. There is nothing special about what happened in September (I mean by comparison to other terrorist attacks. I’m not denigrating the losses that people suffered). It was just bigger. The people who have died in other attacks around the world were just as innocent. They are just as dead. Their families are just as grieved. And when it’s anyplace else, we expect them to just pick up and get over it.

But not in New York. Nope. When it happens to us, it’s sacred ground and a place to cry. When Pearl Harbor was attacked, they didn’t raze it and proclaim a place to cry. The damage was repaired, and people went on with life.

Now remember, I fully support a memorial. In fact, I like the memorial atrium concept described at wtc2002.com. But I do not support just clearing it and dedicating the whole ‘sacred ground’ to mourning. That’s just utterly ridiculous.

You want to grieve? Fine. That’s a good thing. Do it and get it out of your system. But don’t spend the rest of your life feeling sorry for yourself. Recent studies have shown that 100 out of every 100 people born, Die. It’s unfortunate that those in the towers were killed as they were, but they were all going to die anyway. It’s a fact of life.

So mourn. Grieve. But get over it, rebuild, and get on with life.

Joe_Cool,

You live in Jersey?

Stay there.

I am not even going to dignify your drivel with a response.

I am out of this thread.

You are a rambling idiot.

Wow, that hurt. You sure told me. And reaffirmed my characterization at the same time. There are people who live and work in New York, and there are people who define themselves by the fact that they live and work in New York. You’re obviously the latter.

That’s exactly the problem: you haven’t “dignified” anything with a response, except to sling insults. You haven’t made a sensible or rational statement regarding anything that I’ve seen. If you think what I said is stupid, let’s see your argument supporting your position.

I’m sure you’ll be missed.

On second thought, I almost feel like retracting my retraction. My other post, in retrospect, was completely appropriate. This is what you get for talking rationally…

Not one foot shorter.

Here’s my idea:

We build 15 towers, all the same height. Of course, only 2 of them will be the real towers. The other 13 will just be cardboard replicas. So if a hijacker with a safety razor blade ever hijacks a plane and heads towards the towers, chances are he’ll hit one of the replicas. And the people in the real towers can point at him and laugh.
