Depends, “Right” covers a lot of ground. And the American people do not want anything from the Tea Party’s patch of it anywhere near the WH. What the GOP needs now is an old-fashioned, socially liberal, moderately-fiscal conservative Rockefeller Republican.
Palin’s coming back. Mark my words.
Palin, Trump. Christie or Jeb Bush?
Of course it’s too late for them to run on the Republican ticket though. I’d welcome them into the race! The Democrats need as much room as possible to step on themselves and still be able to win.
Better? He’s polling in first place in Iowa and second place in New Hampshire. Nationwide, he’s polling around 14 or 15%. To be honest, he seems like the most likely next not-Romney. If you watched the polling data for both Gingrich and Cain, they were experiencing a steady rise in numbers before exploding onto the scene as a front-runner. If this trend continues, Paul appears to be the next in line for that. The big question is if there’s enough time for yet another downfall of the front-runner and search for a replacement before the primaries start. But oh wait – Paul is already ahead of Gingrich in both of the early primary states. So perhaps he could be the next great right hope.
But so many of the not-Mitt-Romney people also can’t stand Ron Paul. I don’t know how many right-wingers have gone on Fox News (or whatever) and stated that a Ron Paul nomination would doom the party. I’m not sure Ron Paul can be an “acceptable” not-Romney. Unless this turns into a three-way race.
His beliefs aside, he’d also be 77 by the time he took office. He’d be as old on his first day in office as our previous oldest President was on his last day.
So put that down as reason #243234 that Paul won’t be elected President.
I take this back.
Holy Crap can Newt crater in a hurry.
I expect Santorum supports the use of torture. That must be worth a good 20-30% of the Republican vote, if not more.
For crying out loud, Calvin Coolidge is to the left of the current Republican field.
Speaking of which, where did all the Coolidge love come from on the right? I’ve seen his name dropped on NRO and a few other places. Before that I think the only thing I knew about him was the “Silent Cal” nickname…
Rubio is a pretty man in a suit who doesn’t mind pandering. Been a while since the Republicans nominated somebody good looking though.
He got elected and didn’t really do much as President, and since the right thinks that the government shouldn’t really do much, they like him.
How? He was President before the current New Deal consensus. He was President before there was Social Security, Medicare, welfare programs, etc. Not to mention he was an isolationist and a protectionist.
Well, in 1918 he supported women’s suffrage and he was personally somewhat opposed to the prohibition of alcohol. He also wanted to allow Japanese people into America, and said as much in a signing statement attached to the Immigration Act of 1924.
Dick Cheney for…what?

I suppose this is a joke considering all these are nonissues nowadays.
Prohibition wasn’t a right-wing movement, but a progressive one. It was started mostly by feminists, who saw the effects of alcoholism on the poor.
:dubious: At the time they were all hot buttons. There were a lot of political controversies that were hot issues in the past and are not issues today. Why does that mean that we should not look at a politician’s view on those issues to judge him/her?
It’s not like there were standard issues on those positions that all normal politicians held.
