I inexplicably disliked him too.
I actually liked Marcus more and more as the show went on. He seemed very down to Earth and not at all full of himself, unlike the prick that was to leave. Marcus just talked about the things he had to do to win, the risks he was taking and so on, The Prick (to avoid spoilers) just talked about how he should win and that’s it. Good riddance.
Marcus will be around in this show for a while because I dont’ think anyone can beat him in a head to head battle unless he screws something up.
I’m not so sure. MacMillan, Zakarain, and Chiarello could take him easily. The rest could do it as well if the secret ingredient is right. This is still anybody’s game, except for the chicks. They’re toast. Except for Anne.
I think Marcus Samuelsson is smokin’ hot. And sweet. And I still wouldn’t drink that river water.
I liked how Anne Burrell and Robert Irvine worked well together. I can see a little tease the girl/boy on the playground because you like them vibe.
I remember Michael Chiarello being a real snot on Top Chef. (“Son’t you know my name??? It’s KEY A RELL O!!!”)
StG
Which can be said for everyone.
I think they play up the “rivalry” a little more than is actually true.
I’m sure the rest of the chefs are breathing sigh of relief that none of them are going to lose to Spike
Robert Irvine should be next
No, Faulker should be next. It’s “Stadium Food,” which she and Alex know zip about. Irvine talks a scary game, but this is the sort of thing he does on his show. He’ll be fine.
And we have a winner!
I think Zakarian simply misunderstood the instructions as making Iron Chef Stadium food instead of making Iron Chef stadium food. I’m at work so I can’t review the videos but there were a couple of dishes I would not have classified as “stadium food” besides Geoffrey’s. Oh and when I a clip of him and MacMillan together cooking, I started mimicing “The Odd Couple” theme song.
Can’t believe the Snarkasaurus won - or maybe I just don’t want to believe it. As soon as she’s in the bottom 2 she’s done.
So what do y’all think about Irvine’s loss? I was ready to write that one of my top 3 was gone with Robert’s peanuts all over the plate. All Key-a-rello did was substitute fried peanuts for roasted pinenuts. Does this mean the fix is in or simply that it’s not worth it to take a chance and do 100% of a simple meal well rather than 90% of a challenging meal?
Boy did I call this one wrong! The girls rocked, while the guy who does challenges like this for a living goes home.
Chiarello needs to get stomped on, and fast. I don’t care how good a chef he is, if he’s the winner I’ll never watch ICA again. I hope he gets taken out by the pastry chef, just for the added pain it will cause him.
Well, nuts, the only people left who I want to see go far are MacMillan and Falkner.
Chiarello shouldn’t even be there as far as I am concerned. A single ingredient swap is far more egregious to me than slightly thick hummus.
ETA: And no, making pasta does not excuse it. He does it all the time, of course he is one of the few who could pull it off in the time constraints.
I was very annoyed that Irvine lost against that jerk. One of his entire shows is about transforming crappy stuff into gourmet food. Both of his shows, actually.
I’m convinced now that it’s rigged. But I’ll still be watching.
I’m not a big fan of Robert Irvine, but even I think he was robbed. I hope this is not going to turn into more of a personality contest than a cooking competition.
At least Chuck is still in. I’m surprised that the chopped judges can really cook. And Anne is irritating as hell.
I follow Michael Symon on Twitter/Facebook, and boy was he hearing about the results of this week’s episode! People are HOT. However, he says (and I have no reason to doubt him) that he is still friends with both chefs and the chefs themselves agree the judging was fair.
Am I disappointed? Of course. Does Robert need another show? Not really. I’d rather watch him do crazy challenges all the time than watch him in Kitchen Stadium.
But I’m really liking the pastry chef; and I’ve been a fan of McMillan for a while. I think Geoffrey just slightly misunderstood the directions; they didn’t complain about the food itself, just that he didn’t quite follow what was expected.
As much as I don’t mind them on Chopped, I’d rather not see either Alex or Marcus win. And, while I usually like Anne, she IS getting really annoying as this goes on.
The judging was badly edited.
For cooking competition shows, the audience can’t taste the food. We can see it, we can hear it described, but we have no idea what it actually tastes like. So the judging portion of the show needs to be edited to make it clear why one dish is chosen above the other. Based on the comments that made it into the final cut, Chiarello should have gone home. If his dish was really better, the camera crew and editing staff needed to do a better job of getting that feedback out of the judges.
As it was, it looked like they wanted to keep Chiarello in and rigged it.
I’m gonna slightly disagree. Based on the judges comment’s it seemed Symon was pushing hard for Chiarello to win, British judge ( sorry, I’m blanking on the names ) was pushing hard for Irvine and Asian judge was agreeing with both of them. BUT, the difference was Asian judge at one point agreed with Symon that the tomato side was an excellent contrast to Chiarello’s pasta.
Given that I was 70% sure Chiarello was going to win. In this case execution trumped creativity and one thing I’ve noticed from the professional chefs as opposed to the food critics is that they seem to slightly prefer execution over creativity when judging.
This..
I liked this week’s challenge, although it’s not likely the sort of ingredient you’d actually see in Kitchen Stadium. I’m also not terribly disappointed by who got sent home.
However, I think Chef Faulkner is quickly becoming a front runner in the competition, and Geoffrey has impressed me more as the weeks go on; he impressed me on Chopped, too.
I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how this progresses.
I guess nice guys do finish last. The two most personable chefs in the cook off.
When is Alex Guarnaschelli going to get the axe? She might be a great chef, but she doesn’t have the stomach for competition. I think she collapses in her first head-to-head (a concept I really like).
Second week in a row that a chef didn’t understand the rules. Last week it was Zacharian making Iron Chef Statdium food and this week it was MacMillan trying to recreate the flavor of the worms.
Is it too late to move Chiarello out of my top 3 and replace him with Zacharian? Having only known about him from Chopped, I was taken by suprise with how good of a chef he really is.
Burrell had an easy task with root beer but she did what any Iron Chef should do - hit that hanging curve with a home run. Same with MacMillan and the tofu.
In another life, I would have been a pastry chef so I kind of get the whole “OMFG! Anything but desserts!” mantra. Believe me, I teach math so I hear the same thing about my chosen discipline. But I was amazed that these extremely capable chefs were so anti-pastry. And their attitude of “Of course Falkner will nail it.” comes across as very condecending hence her attitude.
I’m not sure that he didn’t understand. I think he didn’t know how to adapt sour patch kids to any kind of savory dish, so he took a chance. Both he and Brown commented that his candy would be the hardest to work with. Chef Hughes had it bad in the cook-off, as he neither likes tofu nor had he ever cooked with it. But that is the lot of an Iron Chef.
