I’ve made good on my earlier promise/threat to @wolfpup , and started a thread making the positive case that there is no understanding in ChatGPT [over in GD](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/why-chatgpt-doesnt-understand/980404). If that is true, I don’t see how there could be any way that ChatGPT could act as a universal translator in this sense.
