Well, he immediately ran up against it. It’s unclear whether he ever internalized it as having anything to do with him.

I remember that poster too. She wanted to keep it so she could dry it, powder it, place it in capsules, and swallow them per her midwife’s instructions to prevent or treat postpartum depression.

There are people who swear by this, and practitioners who are willing to go along with it.

People do this all the time, it’s crazy but by no means accidental to this board.

:smack: Now that’s the kind of evidence I was hoping for. However, I’ve just learned of a small mammal that can leap over 30 feet in the air – strictly using muscle power. It’s called a “bat” and the documentation is irrefutable. There’s also a large speckled African herbivore that can routinely reach 18 feet.

(If anyone feels driven to seriously discuss the issue, the original thread is probably the place to do so. It was unzombified earlier this year and several links are in this thread.)

These people are nuts. Everyone knows that placenta is best when it’s fresh.

The last post on that thread before \*\*Blake \*\*went radio silent was a cite to a scientific paper measuring a bushbaby jumping 2.25 meters. Not sure why you would continue arguing after that, or why you would bother searching for youtube videos.

In my previous house, a 1.5 story, I had fake beams in the upstairs bedroom, which were just over the top of my head (bottom 6’ off the floor, top then 6’6").

My cat Bertie could and did jump from the floor to the top of those beams, straight up with no scrambling to stay on at the top.

Hi **EE**. The bush baby case was examined in a related Pit thread. My memory is that the “scientific cite” was inaccessible, and that particular video is not decent evidence, however [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galago) sez:

Galagos have remarkable jumping abilities. The highest reliably reported jump for a galago is 2.25 m. According to a study published by the Royal Society, given the body mass of each animal and the fact that the leg muscles amount to about 25% of this, galago’s jumping muscles should perform six to nine times better than those of a frog.[6] **This is thought to be due to elastic energy storage in tendons of the lower leg** , allowing far greater jumps than would otherwise be possible for an animal of their size.

So it’s kinda like comparing the stored energy of a bow and arrow versus a pitcher throwing a fastball. It’s not an issue of what the limits are of muscle and bone and leverage, but what an animal can do with stored energey.

I don’t deny the Galagos leaping ability surpasses the “about one meter” criteria, but I do deny that it refutes anything Blake was arguing.

First there was **Kozmik**. He had problems, but I really liked him. I think one of his main themes was that the New York Times literally no longer exists because Twitter. Also notable for [Ask the Conspiracy Theorist](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=670134). Oh, and that if all leaders of the G-192 came together, some really heavy shit would go down. That’s important, too.

Then there’s the guy – his name is escaping me right now – who started off his time here by asking several silly questions, and signing them, “My friend wants to know.” I think he was hands-down the funniest individual I’ve ever seen on the Internet, and I’m not even counting his obsession with laser discs. A crying shame that he was banned a few months ago.

I feel a little sorry for the guy. The thread where he appeared like Beetlejuice was the [Calling all great minds](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=672144) thread, which deserves mention here. I mentioned the name I will not type in post 352, and he responded in post 361.

I haven’t read Hogg. But I thought it was largely disgusting ( a character doesn’t go to a doctor to get rid of intestinal parasites because he ‘likes the way they make his ass itch’) and contained some sex scenes but wasn’t kiddie porn.
