Figured I should probably check in. I’m still not smoking, and I’m down to one or two pieces of nicorette a day now.
I’m not sure how I’ve managed to pull this off, since my relationship has hit a speedbump and I’ve been an emotional mess for the past few days. I even managed to abstain from the nasty things when I drank the other night.
So, I’m still kicking. Looks like I’ve got it licked (again). Hopefully I’ll stay quit for a few years this time (or forever. forever sounds nice)
Hey, if you slip < clears throat towards masonite > please pop back in this thread so we can steer you back if we can. It’s not about getting an A on a term paper or your boss slapping you on the back for a job well done, this is about you helping yourself become “emotionally detached” from those things called cigarettes.
I have had only one nicorette in the days. I have eaten a shitload of sunflower seeds though. My tongue and lips are not happy campers but my lungs and sinuses are. I will deal with the sunflower seed syndrome later. Luckily they don’t take away from my life but might actually add to my waistline. This doesn’t appeal to me but while at my puter, this is steering me away from the old complete habit of smoking.
Well, I am gonna go surf a while. Keep it up folks and those that have slipped, come on back, stop with us again. Nothing is holding you back but you. I welcome your honesty, so please, if you slipped and smoked, pop on in here and lets figure out why you did and get you back on track for next Monday. That gives you a few days to psyche up again while allowing you to smoke. I want each of you to be healthy and as a team we can do it!
Four days, 5 hours, 11 minutes and 3 seconds. 168 cigarettes not smoked, saving $21.08. Life saved: 14 hours, 0 minutes.
Actually, it hasn’t been that bad so far. No celebrations yet, since the weekend is coming and alcohol will now be thrown into the mix. Montréal clubbers smoke like fiends. Pray for me.
Four days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 46 seconds. 54 cigarettes not smoked, saving $12.55. Life saved: 4 hours, 30 minutes.
Thanks for the info Aglet I was thinking about buying another box of patches (7) and removing them a bit earlier each day…I rarely feel like smoking anymore.
Day Five:
Feeling great! Coughing MUCH less. Thinking less about smokes, and more about Disneyworld (maybe Disneyland…that would be faster, and the other thread about Disneyland is really making me want to go)
Husband did not quit on the fifth-his quit date is tomorrow. I asked if he was going to put his fives in the jar and he agreed.
I am sending a big virtual bag of sunflower seeds to Techchick for motivating me to do this. Techchick: I am on the seeds too. The low sodium ones are a little better for me, as the salt was getting to me in this heat!
Today is my first day as an ex-smoker. The Corr-friend and I have quit together. If my former husband and I could survive a car trip to Seattle together, I can survive quitting smoking with the Raven.
I still have the little voice in my head saying “You want a cigarette.” I think I will always have that little voice, it was there before I started smoking, and it just got louder when I did smoke.
But today, there’s another voice, and it says “Little smoking voice, sod off.”
That voice is mine. I am not smoking.
Let there be a raspberries-and-creme candy sacrifice in my name.
I slipped up Wednesday while I was drinking, but the good news is that cigarette was the nastiest thing I have tasted in a long time. I don’t think I’ll have that problem next time. Ick.
The cravings haven’t been too bad, but the habit of lighting up has been hard to break. What I mean is that my problem hasn’t been missing the smoke as much as the act of smoking, if that makes any sense. When I’m sitting on my back porch or driving my truck, something seems “off” until I realize that I would usually be holding a cigarette at the time. Very annoying and I hope it passes quickly.
BooBoo I know exactly what you mean, it’s the physical action of lighting, suckin in that black crap, either keeping it in between your fingers (like when driving) or putting it on the pack so that it lingers over the ashtray, only to be picked up later.
I had some french toast for dinner again tonight (it’s cheap food folks) and tonight I could really taste the extras I put in there. The cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and some vanilla. Yumm Yumm, food tastes sooo much better than I ever remember it. I can’t wait to make my green chile and really taste it!
Corrvin congratulations on joining us. Do not hesitate to ramble about whatever here. I found the first few days I would ramble on about stuff. It’s cleansing though.
Oh and Jorel it was easy for me just like the last time I “tried” I must be truly a freak of nature because I sailed through it all pretty well. I admit I thought about it and I still think about it but it’s not like I need or needed to rip someone’s throat from their neck or anything.
Five days, 1 hour, 36 minutes and 38 seconds. 202 cigarettes not smoked, saving $25.33. Life saved: 16 hours, 50 minutes.
What IS it about sunflower seeds? I also turned to them every time I quit, including the last one. Why sunflower seeds and not nuts, potato chips, pumpkin seeds, hard candy?
Most brands are painfully salty, as everyone knows. By far the best brand I found was Fisher. A solid 10 out of 10 when other seeds ranked 5 at most.
Another GRATS! to all of you who are doing it! You are all my official role models!
OK… finished proofreading the new book (well, Vol. 1, anyways… Vol. 2 won’t come from the publisher for a couple of weeks…). I can now afford to spend a few days being spacey as hell!
It’s currently Saturday night. About 10PM.
New quit date: bedtime tomorrow… I’ll be exactly one week behind you all!
Stoid Not sure what it is about sunflower seeds but they keep your hands busy and for some reason after I eat and when I would have that after-meal smoke, I come upstairs to my computer and start munching on the sunflower seeds. It’s almost nonstop and it’s driving me batty. Much better than smoking though. I think I am retaining water weight from the salt in the seeds though, I have gained a few pounds this week.
Astroboy That’s great, I am glad to see you recommit to the non-smoking thing. You can do it, I am sure you can! I am 100% behind you. YOU CAN DO IT! And get sunflower seeds, it really helps unless you don’t like them. I got a pound of seeds the other day, not all of them fit into one of those square Glad containers but that’s okay.
My best friend’s husband asked me, through Best Friend, how I could drink beer and not smoke. I said, I honestly don’t know but for me it’s been easy. Now, if I were to head out to a bar and have a beer with other’s smoking would be a completely different story.
