In my day we couldn’t afford boots and had to wear celery on both feet. The worst part was when one of the celery stalks would disappear, and we’d have to substitute a carrot. I can still hear the taunts of the other children: “Hey, Carrot Foot!” they’d yell, and threaten to sic their pet rabbits on us.

I just finally realized it was probably the chinchilla who stole our celery. After all these years.
