I laughed too. I thought it was exactly the kind of over-the-top, non-malicious, offensive thing the Onion is good at. They’re not attacking her personally, there’s not hate or anger in the tweet. Its just the absurdity that anyone would call a cute 9 year old kid a cunt. Its the same with dead baby jokes ---

I’m starting to wonder if anyone would’ve paid attention (or as much attention) to the tweet if it _hadn’t_ been for McFarlane’s joke as mentioned earlier in the thread. There was a lot of upset and disgust in the social media world already for him “sexualizing” a nine year old girl, so I think that may’ve primed the pump, as it were. (As it is, there’s already a lot of rejoicing and nods of “good” over the apology.) ---

It was The Onion. It was a joke. Get over it. I doubt that little girl even knows what a cunt is, let alone be offended by it. Had nothing to do with her being black. She is hardly a flash-in-the-pan - she now has the lead role in the upcoming re-filming of “Annie”, so I hardly think this will ruin her career. To be honest - she kind of is borderline cute/pretentious and walking that fine line between sweet kid and obnoxious brat; but what do you expect from a kid that age thrown into the limelight? …but it was a JOKE, people - a JOKE! Geez - some people are just a tad too eager to take a single sentence and just whip it up into a frenzy of personal effrontery. ---

Louis CK has video of himself all over the interweb calling his 4 year old daughter an asshole and AFAIK he never caught any shit for it. This was a pretty funny tweet, IMO, and I’m seriously disappointed in Steve Hannah. I hope he isn’t in charge for much longer at The Onion, as he obviously doesn’t “get” humour as much as he should. ---

Louis CK has like a 10 minute bit in his Beacon Theater performance about how he wants to ruin the life a a child in his daughter’s class. It’s pretty funny. I don’t really think it’s a good comparison in two ways: the kid’s probably fake and nobody knows who it is anyway, and the Onion tweet wasn’t making fun of Quvenzhané. ---
