Going back to the Kaylon/Cylon comparison for a sec. The Cylons were originally a race of reptilian like beings who created the AI beings who eventually rose up. It was the Terrans who called the AI’s Cylons (short for Cylon robots)

Now in the Orville universe the Krill are a race of reptilian like Beings. Could the Krill be related to the race that created the Kaylons, or even members of the creators who escaped to restart their civilization elsewhere in the galaxy? Which would give the Krill even more reason to ally with the Union against the Kaylons. Or conversely give the Kaylons reason to join with the Union against the Krill?

Maybe the Kaylons thought keeping their remains was respectful in a way, like how humans bury their dead. Maybe they have a fondness for their creators and regret the need to slaughter them, and their remains are held as a memory of that.

The bones have DNA, but what use is that to the Kaylons?

The same information and value human anthropologists and archeologists value. Only it’s not petrified so it includes a chemical/environmental history.

And note, I’m not implying that is perfectly rational- quite the contrary as I likened it to hoarding. I just don’t see why we should assume a robot society is completely free of little bugaboos. Our computers are free of that problem because they don’t have wishes and dreams. These guys do. It’s not “rational” to expand throughout the universe, it’s a choice they’re making.

I preferred Alara. She was cuter, had more charisma and better teeth. The new Security chief has a… hmm, almost a _hillbilly_ vibe, somehow. Hard to explain.

I thought at the end the Security chief should’ve told Locar, “Here’s what we’re gonna do. We’ll tell the Moclans, both on their planet and on this ship, that you really _did_ commit suicide and tried to frame Klyden. But we figured out the frameup, so Klyden has to go free. We’re going to keep you hidden until we can take you to a world where you can live in safety. But until I can clear this with the Captain, stay hidden.”

Bruce Willis hasn’t done any comedy roles in years. He sounded like an old David Addison to me, which makes sense, though at first I wondered if it was an impressionist.

I assumed it was jealousy. Bortus was being cagey about his previous relationship with - and current feelings about - Locar, so Klyden was following him out of suspicion that he was up to something with Bortus.

I dunno - I want to like Yaphet but he’s kind of clingy and annoying. And sounds like Norm MacDonald, which is an extra annoyance factor.

That said, I’m laying odds that at some point (not this season, but maybe season 4 if it happens) we get a below-decks “Yaphet and Dan overcome adversity” episode.

But that would have resulted in Locar’s whole family being banished, which is why it was a faked murder rather than faked suicide in the first place.

He’s in the new Lego movie as well, in some of the few actually-funny moments.

Spencer is so enamored of 20th Century entertainment he should be pointing out that the Kaylons are doing exactly what the Cylons did in both (or all) of the BSG’s.
There’s no reason to think that BSG, or Star Wars or Star Trek or any other fantastic fiction doesn’t exist in The Orville universe, is there?
This reminds me of zombie movies where people are surprised there are animated dead roving around - it shouldn’t be all that shocking by now.

Yeah, I think it sounds like Bruce Willis too.

Forget to say earlier, the teacher’s pursuit of Kelly after she broke up with him was 'way too much. Borderline stalking. She should’ve told him to knock it off or she’d force his transfer off the ship.

Then say he really was murdered, but that the \*Orville \*crew, despite their best efforts, just can’t figure out who did it, and that the investigation remains open.

Exactly. And the robots wouldn’t post a guard at the end of the gangway? And the hatch to the ladder down opened automatically when a human child was near? The scan showed the kid was 45 meters underground, IIRC, but it looked like he didn’t climb nearly that far down. And besides, the tower to which the \*Orville \*was moored looked much higher than that above the planet’s surface.

I think it’s the pronounced eye makeup combined with a tendency for her resting face to make her look like she’s glowering or clenching her teeth. It’s very reminiscent of the late-30s/early-40s women you find at country bars who seem to be angry at the world.

I would guess that a robot society would either leave them where they were, provided that they weren’t in the way, or they’d somehow use them for resources; if nothing else, bones are probably a rich source of calcium.

The hatch opened after he pushed teh “open hatch” button - I find it more amazing that with all of the AI and technology - not one Kraylon noted “unauthorized hatch opened” or “hey, there’s a human poking around on the surface unattended”.

This doesn’t bug me that much. The Kaylons had already demonstrated that they could remotely disable the ship’s defensive and propulsion systems anytime they wanted. In their arrogance, they didn’t consider the _Orville_ enough of a threat to bother with a guard.

Now, what _did_ bug me a bit was a) that the _Orville_ didn’t post any guards of their own, and b) in true _Star Trek_ universe fashion, sends high-ranking crew out on grunt jobs like retrieving a wandering kid. Like some others here, I’m not very impressed by the new security officer.

Still didn’t really ruin my enjoyment of the ep, but hey, nitpicking is fun!
