That’s how the cable companies get you to stick around, by throwing 300 channels at you that you never actually use. My current expenses are: Hulu: 12 bucks a month. Could be 6, but I like the ad-free version. Netflix: 13 bucks a month. Could be 9, but I like the HD streaming. Antenna for broadcast television: 0 bucks a month. A “basic cable” package from my local grifters is 88 bucks a month, and is of course missing content that I get from Hulu and Netflix. A package that covered all non-original content from my current services would be much more than that. This isn’t about being smug, it’s about not being held hostage to cable companies who want me to pay for 200 channels even if I only want to watch 10 of them. There is no world, no combination of channels and packages, where traditional cable would be cheaper for me than simply purchasing what I want, a la carte, from various streaming services. Also, having the entire library of shows like Star Trek (Tv and Movies), Twilight Zone, Nature docs, etc… makes it worth it to me. For the record I also pay $0 in cable. I have Netflix and OTA. I did subscribe to HBO Now for the final season of GOT (with the free week, I paid for one month to see all the episodes "live’) The thing with cable is you pay AND get commercials. With Netflix and HBO I paid but no commercials. With OTA it is free but commercials. The $11.99 Hulu doesn’t have commercials, but I’ll probably pass Brian ---
