The Peanuts holiday specials ruined Snoopy

Interesting! I don’t agree with the basic thesis, but he’s right that the last quarter century worth of strips were pap. And one thing he said echoes my concern for the strip’s legacy:

Not only did Schulz’s humor change after a number of mid-life crises, the “Golden Age” strips required a level of literacy (e.g., familiarity with Scripture, psychology, literature, spectator sports) that’s not so common nowadays. There were also historical links (e.g., the centennial of the Civil War, the '60s surfing culture, the early space program, the fiftieth anniversary of WWI, references to Bill Mauldin) that have little relevance to kids today.

The breaking of the fourth wall, along with the inherent silliness of the self-aggrandizement involved.

I have a soft spot in my heart for a series in which the ace is making his way through the trenchhes. He excuses himself to an unseen interlocutor, then informs us: "I just tripped over a bli g

Fat-fingered my post.

He informs us (with an embarrassed grin): “I just tripped over a blighter!”

Millennial wife!? It could also mean she’s only 13!:dubious:

I hear you though, I dated a lot of younger women and it drove me nuts that they had no idea about my favorite music, movies, tv shows, books, etc…

Then I married my wife who is one year older than me and she doesn’t like my favorite music, movies, tv shows, books, etc… either.
