It’s that time of year guys !!! You know some of you will be headed back home from the cities to hometowns, perhaps being surrounded by Trump voters, possibly vice versa. But I just recalled a lovely statement designed to mend fences between bitter ideologies and attitudes, a statement that will bring people of all political dispositions together. It actually came from a tv show, and always struck me as a striking speech of civility and coming together. I made it abundantly clear to several family members that if my father goes on some political rant at the Thanksgiving table, like he did last year, I’m getting up and walking out. Last year it was about how welfare needed to be cut because there was so much fraud. Seriously. That shit at the table where we’re supposed to be celebrating our bounty and sharing with others. :smack: ---

My Thanksgiving party was yesterday, and although there are some very opinionated people included, I was pleasantly surprised to only hear politics brought up a few times, and only briefly. ---

No politics was brought up today, with the whole family together, but yesterday, boy oh boy: Now, we are all Democrats in our family. Nevertheless my dad and my sister got into a ferocious argument about why Hillary lost, what we should do to combat Trump both immediately and in the long run, and related issues. ---

I had dinner at a friend’s house, where the political discussion was saved for the post-meal washing up. I duly received a relatively gentle lecture on what was considered appropriate vs. inappropriate reactions to the recent election. I generally disagreed with the interpretation, but held my tongue, sipped my wine, smiled and nodded at the appropriate points, and made it through without incident. ---

You guys are lucky. Politics talk broke out at my Thanksgiving gathering and 47 people were murdered. ALL Trump supporters so I’m actually happy. But a 3 month old was caught in the fire and had Weber burned on her ass. So that was a little sad. ---

I went to my ex-inlaws house for Thanksgiving where there was a ‘No Politics’ rule that my 10 year old daughter was either made the official of by someone or appointed herself to be the arbitrator of. It worked fine except I don’t think she knows what ‘politics’ is exactly. She ruled ‘No Politics!’ when her cousin disputed a call in the Cowboys-Redskins game. She may have a point but other than that, everything worked out fine.
