I am watching a documentary on the Philippines at the moment that focuses on politics, religion and history.
I want to go there so much, and have done since I was a little girl.
It looks beautiful, exciting and crazy. I really shouldn’t watch programs that make me want to go there even more.

I was there once…for 20 minutes. ::SMACK:: Stop it!
It has been many years, but I visited my sister there when she was teaching at the Department of Defense Dependent School at George Dewey Naval Base. It was indeed beautiful, exciting, and crazy.

I came here in 2001 for a job with Shell on the Malampaya Platform. The job finished and I stayed. I love the place and consider it my adopted home. I love the people the place and and of course the prices.
Philippines does have its problems but its easy to get involved and help on a practical level. Years ago as a kind of thank you I held a birthday party in Elsie Garches Kids home. This isn’t actually a home its more a village for handicapped kids.
I have to admit that my original plan was basically to pay for the party and show face and leave. We stayed all day with the guys there… so moving and humbling an experience. Its regular occasion now for me and my friends here. The staff are wonderful. The kids have an amazing spirit despite the obstacles they face.
Come to philippines !!

How easy is it to move around the different islands? And which ones are best to go to?!

I went there in around 88/89. When I went to Cebu on the first day I believe the chief of police and his bodyguards were gunned down. It was an exciting time, and lovely people.

I lived in Manila almost all of my life but moved to Europe a few years back. I don’t like Manila as a city and I don’t recommend it as a travel destination. It’s quite dirty.
The islands, however, are great. I would definitely go to Palawan. It’s breathtaking. El Nido is the top resort there but it’s pricey. There are other resorts you can choose from though.
Boracay is fun. It’s a bit overdeveloped but the beach is amazing. The sand is like powder and the waters are calm, shallow and warm.
Bantayan Island I hear is very pretty. When I go back to visit, I will definitely go there. I also plan on going to a new resort in Caramoan. It’s supposed to be like Palawan but cheaper.
Traveling by air is cheap if you fly Cebu Pacific ([www.cebupacificair.com](http://www.cebupacificair.com)).
By the way, [Anthony Bourdain just did an episode of on the Philippines](http://anthony-bourdain-blog.travelchannel.com/read/hierarchy-of-pork). It’s on the Travel Channel but a quick search on YouTube will bring it up. Gotta try the lechon! It really is the best pig in the world.
