My 2 cents…Never been to Chicago or N.Y. and I really don’t want to get into like a Civil War discussion.(what is that, anyway?) I agree with the comments about a wonderful variety of foods, here in Ca. But the ? was about pizza. So…My input is this; I haven’t lived in the Bay Area since 1979 but there used to be a tiny place (and of course I can’t remember its name) on San Jose’s east side that was barely more than a street cart. (it was, however, on a permanent foundation) People would drive there from all over for this pizza. (Line out the door and down the street) It was stacked with toppings and cheese, the right amount of sauce and just greasy enough to be juicy. Very close friends of mine are Italians who were raised in Little Italy…ok, here it is…They swore that the best pizza was back home (never asked if they meant Little Italy, New York, or the country-assumed the obvious) HOWEVER; they went on to say that this place came in 2nd place hands down. Jeff/Trekker: I get a little jumpy when I deal with neo-Confederates who get into this drivel about the honor and glory of the Confederate cause. I take that issue pretty seriously, and I apologize if I jumped out a little too hard. And compared to this grey head, you are a youth. Atlanta is a great spot - - it has a lot to offer culturally, if not great Pizza. Oh definitely the Union. Only those sick and twisted people could come up with something that messy, gooey, and bad for you. Of course, Satan is the cause, bad for you but tastes good. I am not the cause of anything! But seriously, my Southern friend… What IS Atlanta known for when it comes to cuisine? I live in Raleigh, which likes to be known for BBQ (but I think it sucks) and I’ve been to Charleston, which is known for Low Country Cuisine, which I really enjoyed - like a combination of New Orleans-type cajun and Southern fare - Shrimp with Grits is a specialty, for example… Not wanting to fight, brother, just trying to stay on topic. I wasn’t really blaming you for Pizza, just using the Christian concept of Satan offering that which looks/tastes good but is bad for you and combining it with the fact that you have choosen the screen name of Satan. I do not guess Atlanta is known for any particular type of food. Mayor Cambell and the Gov usually agree to send ribs or peaches to mayor/gov of the city/state that the rival team playing our Atlanta team in the playoffs (Braves or Falcons). I think due to the fact that Southern Cooking is very similar all over the south, there is not much to be known for there. Now that so many transplants have come down, we offer a wide variety of foods. Italian, Mexican, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, French, etc. Jeffery ---

I prefer NY pizza. That said, I like Chicago pizza fine, it’s just not what I consider to be pizza. More of an open faced sandwich. In a similar vein, just let me say this: Montreal and New York have the best bagels outside of Israel. Toronto and Los Angeles pretend to do bagels, but they do not know jack shit about anything bagelicular. “Would you like a cinnamon-raisin bagel?” That’s not a bagel, that’s a doughnut made of bread! ---

Perhaps this just destroys the entire debate, but isn’t the true pizza different for all? Interestingly, true pizza isn’t really anything like Ny or Chicago or any other American pizza. True pizza is the essence of simplicity… a little tomato, a little basil, maybe a bit of FRESH mozzarella. Very low-key, very thin. All our pizza is much more intense than real Italian pizza. * * * * * * We do precision guesswork ---

Since I don’t live near enough to New York or Chicago to get “real” pizza, is there any chains that are OK? I order from Little Ceasers but only because they are extremely cheap. * * * “You CAN’T be evil. Donatos is a central Ohio chain that is supposedly going to expand soon, and they make the best pizza on earth. They have the freshest toppings I’ve ever tasted. ---

Donatos was bought by McDonalds, and that is why it is going to expand. Micky D’s is dieing to get in on the pizza fad, but that ill concieved pizza they made only hurt things. They are going to open Donatos all over and perserve the name, and keep the stores seperate. a full story is available on their website. ---

Feh, The only real pizza doesn’t come from a specific city or region…it comes from small mom and pop resturants. I’ve had pizza in Chicago, and in NY, and here in San Jose, and my favorite pizza is still Mama D’Salvos in Dayton. Stoidela, if I thought Little Caesars was good I wouldn’t be asking for recommendations for another spot. I only order from them when my ravenous teen-age brothers come over to visit and I don’t have enough time to make homemade pizza for everyone. The way they eat quantity is more important than quality. ## I certainly hope you are never truly starving Stoidela. A homeless person would be very happy with a “FOUL” LC’s pizza. “You CAN’T be evil.
