# The POSH acronym lives!

Just when you thought the spurious acronymic etymology of “posh” had been [laid to rest](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72555&highlight=acronym), it [reappears](http://www.pocruises.com.au/html/posh_club.cfm).

And ironically, given that [“P & O maintains that it never printed [tickets marked P.O.S.H.] and none has ever been found,”](http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2002/11/06/nposh106.xml) it is P&O that has christened its cruising VIP club [P.O.S.H.](http://www.pocruises.com.au/html/posh_club.cfm), complete with a rehash of the disproved etymology.

Cecil certainly picked the right job, as fighting ignorance is never going to be a done deal…
