Darn, my lack of participation changed the outcome of the game
Anyhow, still couldn’t have gone wrong with either of the final choices. Good game!

If I had voted I’d have picked Lincoln because my original intent was what the President did in their administrations.
Plus I’m planning to create a new game based on Michael Hart’s 100 most influential people in history. Elendil’s Hair hasn’t created her thread yet so can I go?
It’s “Heir,” not “Hair,” and I’m a he. Check this out: Greatest American elimination game (setup thread) - The Game Room - Straight Dope Message Board
Sorry and thank you.
“Elendil’s Hair” would be a funny username, though. snort
Playing “Elimination” with Hart’s List sounds like fun. Is the idea to come up with a better Top 100 List, or just to sort the 100 already on his list?
One of Hart’s changes in his 1992 revision of the original 1978 list was to replace William Shakespeare with Edward de Vere (Earl Oxford). That’s a fun debate but you wouldn’t want it to hijack your thread. Where do Dopers debate Shakespeare Authorship, anyway? Cafe Room? Humble Opinion? … or perhaps it belongs in BBQ Pit?
(By the way, if he were a she, wouldn’t she be Elendil’s Hairess?
)
I’d guess Shakespeare debates should probably go to Cafe Society, though I guess there’s an argument for Great Debates.
Earl Oxford instead of Shakespeare? Lunacy! Screw GD, we oughta Pit him!
I’d be using the list already there. Plus I’d use Shakespeare instead of De Vere.
For those of us who do not find anti-Stratfordian theories to be clearcut lunacy (and this group does include septimus along with many serious thinkers), may I suggest the substitution * the Author of Shakespeare’s works* for “Shakespeare”?
Maybe or I could just put quote marks around “William Shakespeare” to indicate it may be a pseudonym.
