The Presidential Helicopter and the I-35 Bridge
I think you meant the OP, which was devoid of facts, logic, or substance, unless you count “Bush sucks” as meaning anything.
BTW, I don’t recall seeing “Bush sucks” anywhere in the OP.
Also, there may only be one Air Force One (officially there’s only the one, but who knows?), but there’s multiple helicopters and limos which will have the designation Marine One and Limo One. Proof of this lies in the fact that the President will take Marine One to Air Force One and then fly to another country, where Marine One will be waiting for him. How’d it get there? Air Force One flys faster and has a much greater range than Marine One does. They certainly don’t stuff Marine One inside of Air Force One (that’s where Limo One goes). So, obviously, there has to be more than one Presidential chopper.
I had a relative that flew and commanded HMX-1 during Bush I and Clinton. Yes, there are multiple helicopters in the squadron. I believe there are a total of 23.

The helicopters do not go with the President on every trip, but when they do, they are typically staged 1-2 days in advance.

As an aside, whenever the President travels in a military aircraft, the flight designation automatically becomes [Branch of Service] One. When the VP flies, the aircraft designation is [Branch of Service] Two.
Tuckerfan, and others, added content both pro and con to this conversation which might give Spavined Gelding something to think about. You added the standard leetspeak and bumper sticker response which involves no thinking whatsoever.
What “pro” content can there possibly be to this conversation? For obvious security reasons, the President flies on Marine One, not the ABC News Chopper-7. What was the reason for the OP, other than a mindless Bush-Bash, and why do you seem to condone it?

You know, Czarcasm, if you’re going to be dynamiting puppies in a barrel, you could at least tip the barrel over first. More sporting that way.

As common as such “Bush sucks” threads are around here, I thought the OP did a good job of keeping this about the president, and not about Bush. You jumped the gun on this one.

Of course these presidential visits are kind of a damned if you do and damned if you don’t thing. People are going to bitch if he does go and others are going to bitch if he doesn’t. I guess it’s just kind of one of those things you just have to do as mayor/governor/president.

You know, I think you’re right, I did jump the gun. My apologies, everyone.

Don’t make a habit of apologizing. If you do it every time you act like an idiot on this board, it will exactly double your post count.

Now, that was a bit harsh, don’t you think? Carol admitted that she’d jumped the gun and apologized. Would that every Doper did this when they got called out for doing something similar.

Just so.

Speaking of cheap shots…

Anyway, it’s not even strictly accurate. She can get quite a few posts in on a single thread. It would be kind of churlish to insist on (or even expect) a separate apology for each one.

ETA: P.S. Bush sucks

Well, he DOES.

Hey, a stopped clock is right twice a day, too. If she hadn’t spent the vast majority of her existence on this board being an unmitigated asshole, i wouldn’t have even thought to comment. But she has, so i did.

Just think of her as a transgendered Shodan.
While The Usual Suspects was a damn fine movie, I find it to be a cheap shot when used in this context. It adds absolutely nothing to the conversation, and it looks like you are parroting the last bumper sticker you passed on the freeway.
How do you know Carol Stream didn’t use the term “Usual suspects” the way Claude Rains used it in Casablanca?: “Round up the usual suspects.” That’s the way I read it.

I think you’ll find that Czarcasm was actually living up to his name.

So, by being an asshole back, that makes you better than her, how? God fucking damn! One of the biggest things wrong with this country right now is that there’s fucktards in both political parties who refuse to concede that they’re wrong about something, no matter how much evidence is presented before them. Why the fuck do you not only have to perpetuate that here but be unrepentant about it? How the fuck do you expect people like Carol to concede the point when they’ve been proven wrong if you jump their shit? Put down Tom DeLay’s playbook, would ya?

Thus proving that you are exactly the same kind of fuckwit you believe Carol to be. If Carol’s as bad as you say she is, and from what I’ve seen, she is, there will be ample opportunities for you to jump her shit with a valid reason. That, however, is apparently not good enough for you. You’ve got to jump her shit whenever you see a post by her. What a senseless waste of human life you are.

Not if it’s military. :stuck_out_tongue:
It crossed my mind that the 133rd Airlift Wing of the Minnesota AIr National Guard might have something he could borrow.
No, that unit operates only the C-130 Hercules Transport planes. Eight of them. No helicopters at all. See a photo of a C-130 here.

I suppose they could put Bush in one and fly him over the site. They can go a bit lower and a bit slower than AF1. But still, cruising by at 200mi/hr or so wouldn’t do much. And they really don’t have much in the way of windows except for the pilots.

(Of course, since most of that unit just got back from Bush’s war in Iraq, where their tour of duty got extended 3 different times, the Secret Service probably wants to keep Bush away from them. They might say things that he doesn’t want to hear.)

While I’m generally in support of your scold of mhendo, Tuckerfan, I must confess to being confused by the reference to the Tom DeLay playbook.

When was DeLay ever right enough about something to be in a position to jump someone’s shit after they conceded error?

Or is it just about kicking someone when they’re down?
