I would have let the manager eat it. Literally, and gone for a hamburger somewhere else.

Ok, guys, you’ve convinced me that I’m a selfish no-good bastard. I’ll stop by tonight and give the guy his $4, plus a few extra. Thanks for setting me straight.

What I don’t understand is, why couldn’t the manager just cancel your online order and redo the order on his end for the correct price? 😕

Dopers eat at Pizza Hut!? Are there no better pizza options in your area?

I’m a pizza fean. If I could get away with it, I’d eat a slice every day.

Out of all the chains, I like PH the best. Even with the improvements they’ve made, Dominoes is inferior. Papa Johns used to be my fav, but I don’t care for the companies politics. Plus the sauce is cloyingly sweet. Little Caesar’s pizza is only good the first five minutes out of the oven. Then it turns into tasteless petrified cardboard.

I’ve got a Mellow Mushroom around the corner from me. It’s great but it’s pricey and there’s always a line out of the door. I’d rather not wait that long.

I do try to support the independent places around me. There’s a place down by the university that has the best eggplant and basil slices in the world. So I’ll go there when I want to get that. When I’m downtown in the middle of the day, I’ll get my slices from the terrific pizzeria on the corner. But its only open for lunch.

I am not at all ashamed for my love of PH. It’s the pizza of my 80s childhood, and those greasy slices never disappoint.

There is no such thing as a better pizza than a thin crust pizza from Pizza Hut.

I confess. And I live in NYC. There’s a little Pizza Hut at the Target in East River Plaza on 117th and now hitting it is part of our routine when I take my girls up there. I think they just have the little personal pizzas that aren’t half bad as long as they’re fresh.

I’m with the OP here. I probably would have picked a different battle to fight, but I’m sick of seeing these type of advertisements screaming: $10 and then find out that it is $14 at checkout because they add on tax, title, and licensing fees. Just give me the bottom line price when I order.

Further, the “You should have checked the total when you ordered” sounds an awful lot to me like “You really didn’t believe our lie when we told you it was $10, did you?” I don’t think that customers should have to be “on guard” through every step of the transaction after seeing the initial offer. I see $10 and click accept, then I shouldn’t be on constant lookout for a 40% markup.

Companies should be held to the same standard as anyone else regarding this. Do you want to buy my car for $5000? Okay, that will be $5785. What? You have to pay your transaction fee and a preparation fee! Everyone knows that. I’m a poor working guy; don’t try to cheat me.

Of course there is. It’s called a stuffed crust pizza from Pizza Hut, which is in fact the best pizza in the world. Costco’s pizza comes close.

Presumably the OP _did_ get a bottom-line price when he ordered but he didn’t bother to pay attention to what it was. And how can they advertise a price nationally that includes sales tax, given that varies from 0-10%?

Have the words “plus local sales tax” displayed as prominently and in the same size font as the “$10” language.

If you don’t like the sales tax, take it up with the Government. Pizza Hut has nothing to do with it.

Do you really think that people on cash registers are not penalised for shortfalls? How else would they stop people from giving discounts to friends, helping themselves to money etc. If the orders add up to $3000 and there is only $2996 you can bet that $4 is usually going to be added by the cashier so as to avoid the headaches of justifying it to those further up the chain.

Not picking up your pizza is different to not paying the right amount for it. There would be a pizza still in store for a start.

Cash Registers have different levels of operations. There’s one level for the regular cashiers where basically, all they can do is ring stuff up and give people their change. And then there’s a manager’s level where the manager can make adjustments, cancel out orders etc…

He could have canceled that order out and wrote up a new one, but he didn’t want to do that because it’s a pain in the ass.

No, sales tax was not involved. I’ve gotten their $10 pizzas several times, and they’re always just $10, no extras, as long as it’s a carryout (delivery adds $2.). That’s why I didn’t read the final amount, I “knew” it was $10.

Anyway, I stopped by tonight and gave the guy an additional $7. I also tried to place a test order from home, and it came to $10, so apparently the other night was a glitch.

What did the guy say? He should have refused the money.

I would guess that the $4 didn’t come out of his pocket, and the $7 did go into his pocket.
