Just a post to say that I, Inigo Montoya, stand in awe of QtM.
Pick a reason: MD, ex-junkie, Tolkein GURU, Dad of a girl, Compassionate Prison Doc, storyteller–a voice of logic, a beacon in the fog when he chooses to shine for us.
Yeah, he’s not anything the rest of us aren’t…except that I don’t know anyone who’s got all those disparate points so soundly nailed up in one box.
As someone who’s been around the block a few times, is considered by many a master in his field and has won his share of hands–four of a kind, but natural deuces–my virtual hat is off to the midwestern guy whose vision spans fantasy & medicine, sobriety and addiction, firmness and compassion.

I like how he has tried to recover from his addictions, and his support for healthcare reform to help more people. Plus when I was getting pitted all the time he never joined in on the insults even though he responded to the threads. That was nice.

Sometimes, when I really need to be entertained and/or elightened, I do a search on his user name to specifically find threads he’s contributed to. He’s the only poster I do that with on a regular basis.

But I agree with everything else–I loves me some Mercotan.
I like that he doesn’t condescend to me in medical posts. Thanks, doc! Much appreciated.
And he flirts really nicely in threads started by newbies (goes down memory lane, fondly…)
He has a nice child on the boards as well. I don’t know how well I would blend parenting and some of the topics that come up here, but he does it very well.
All round good egg, IMO.

Dad of a couple girls!
Plus we share a heritage (if not an ancestry, apparently), and he hooked me up with a woman who was able to seriously flesh out my genealogy, to the point where my mom is going to be thrilled on Mother’s Day. She was annoyed that she knew almost nothing of her father’s side of the family, and now I’ve got a family tree going back many generations to give her.

I’ve always enjoyed his posts here too. Being in the medical field myself I have a special fondness for his posts about life as a prison doc, but I enjoy his other contributions here too. He seems like an all-around fun, smart, and classy guy who makes this board a better place!

An Awe of QtM Thread. I’m in.
I have the utmost respect for a person that is more knowledgeble of Tolkein than I am. I have never met anyone in the person that was.
He is calm and rational in threads. An excellent storyteller and I give a lot of repsect to someone who chooses a character from a fictional novel from a now obscure Space Opera classic by the Grand Master of Space Opera.
So QtM is more than QX in my book and I hope he always has “clear ether” in his travels.

Gosh, who knew that if I just tried to do the next right thing, endeavored to put principles ahead of personalities, and at least attempt to act like what I think a responsible adult is supposed to act like, then I would end up with an enjoyable life and make friends on the internet!
